What are you listening to now?

We CAN be stronger than bombs

Yes…Yes we can!

Thats an awful song, pure terrible

Bad music…or bad history?

Bad music , and whoring history hoping to sell a couple copies in the states. Sickening

He may not be Irish , but he too is from The Island, fathered by a supposed Celt so maybe he’s more Irish than you. HE is Bob Marley and he did say if you know your history then you know where your comin’ from. I know where I came from!!!

Eirigh Suas ,Seas Suas

Kinda sums up Ireland at the minute , up ā– ā– ā– ā–  creek without a paddle but still paddlin’

LoL…not my intent…Just was sharing a cool tune…appears I struck a nerve…More Irish than me…not hard as I’m American…all that Old Cultural Shite means nothing to me…as for kid…well…don’t believe everything you read bro…

If you care…I doubt that he wrote this to 'sell a few copies, in the states. He was in Thin Lizzy in the 70’s and several friends were killed in bombings…this album was supposed to be a tribute/cry from the heart…

I’m shocked at DP and VS for not discussing one who they both know is from Ireland, no Brooklyn, no Ireland! He wrote the following:

ā€œBut Jesus, when you don’t have any money, the problem is food. When you have money, it’s sex. When you have both it’s health, you worry about getting rupture or something. If everything is simply jake then you’re frightened of death.ā€

He is, of course, a man I am sure you have both read. And if you haven’t shame on you talking about the US or Ireland for that matter.

He is J.P. Donleavy, and it is from his most popular book, The Ginger Man. One of the great Ex-Pats.

Sorry Scratch , cant say I have read any of his stuff but Im sure if you have given it your time then their is undoubtedly merrit.

My favorite author is actually American. After all Ive said … oops

Jerome David Donleavey was born in Brooklyn but enrolled at Trinity and loved Ireland and Europe so much he never left. So he speaks as an Ex-Pat giving the impression of being a green-back but in fact being a narrow-back by a few generations. So if you want to read an American writing about Ireland then you may want to start with The Ginger Man, then, a Singular Man, Meet My Maker The Mad Molecule, The Saddest Summer of Samuel S, A Fairy Tale of New York, a book about an Irish undertaker in NY, The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B, The Destiny of Darcy Dancer, Gentleman, and the Onion Eaters. There are many more I haven’t read. I myself am from Woodsise Queens and am a narrow-back.

I dont know what a narrowback is but I do know my great great grandfather was a ā€œsandhogā€ in NY in the mid 1870s. Another job no one else wanted to do. Where would 'Murrrica be without those guys

A greenback is somebody who is Irish and decided to become a citizen of the US. Narrowbacks are the sons and daughters of greenbacks. I hope you read and saw ā€œBrooklynā€ a wonderful story showing the beauty of both the 1950s Ireland and NYC and the great people and ugly who habit both places.

I asked if you read or saw Brooklyn! Hell, everybody has been IN Brooklyn :&^) It’s even on the bucket lists of outback aboriginals. Here’s a guy who dreams and schemes to get there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEgXAu30yuY
