In honor of having @napkin_holder at my table for Bust the Staff when this happened, here’s my final hand from this month’s tourney: Three-outer on the River
Hah! Brutal. Classic cheryl LOL
I joined this tournament btw, but I bailed after like the 8th hand. I forgot how bad these donkaments are… couldn’t handle seeing people cold call with KK from the button and then min bet all 3 streets with no ace on board
And honestly, just fold A4o here - even against a limp, even on the button. You’re not going to see a 4 high flop very often, or get much money in good if you hit the ace. The potential reward just isn’t there with hands like these, so unless your short enough that the risk side of the equation is also small, you can just pass.
I don’t remember that hand at all. How long ago was it?
I may have been multi-tabling, had a decision to make on another table, came back and the time bank was about to fold me so I just clicked. I could totally see that happening if I had 3 tables going. I watched the hand myself when it got quoted and wondered why I 2x’d. I wouldn’t 2x A-rag. Button-click is all that I can think of.
For the record I finished 17th but only 1 bounty. Not as good as last month when I was 8th with 11 knockouts (including 1 staff).
Wwwiild and cray-zeh guy! ; )
Had a deep run in European Travellers today. Had several lucky hands, but after the past couple of weeks of suckout city, it was finally my turn today.
Double Knockout
UtG micro jams for just over 4bb. My 98o isn’t great but I have him outstacked 10 to 1. I want to call from the CO but with 3 more Villains left to act I think about raising for iso. In the end I don’t. Probably a mistake as the wager was only 4bb. BB calls, 3-way. I flop open-ended. BB checks, I bet roughly 1/3rd. He flats which isn’t good, but then I hit the straight on the turn! I want to put him all-in my decision is whether I should just hit the max button or should I bet the exact amount of his stack. Betting his stack exactly is more intimidating and will get more folds. I’m not bluffing here, but in the end I decided to intimidate just in case he has 2 hearts. He calls. I take it down and nuke 'em both. Was rather lucky on that one. I probably could have played it a little better. This made me chip leader.
Hand # 1262097805
TT - unfoldable ; ) - on the BT. 3 limpers. I miscalculated my sizing here. Wanted to go bigger and accidentally went by the sb instead of the bb and opened for just over 4bb. I was probably still multi-tabling at that point and rushed my math. 2 callers, BB and UtG. Flop 592 2-tone. BB jams for 20% pot. UtG folds. Easy call. Run out bricks. I win.
Monster Bluff
A2 hearts on the SB. 1 limper. I don’t really want to play this OoP, but for some reason I limp it in despite meh pot odds (which I haven’t been doing lately at all). Flop nut flush draw and deuce catcher. Bet 40%. BB calls, heads-up (this Villain was passive on the blinds all day*). Turn Kdi brings in double flush draw. I barrell 35%. Villain calls. River bricks, draw busts. I bet a little over 1/4 pot. Villain folds (fist pump!). That was an important one.
*As in, if it folds to me on SB I bet 3x, he folds 100%, and if it folds to him on SB he limps 100%.
At this point I’m eyeing the payouts. I’m not very interested in 75k or 135k. I want that big fat 520k for first!
Semi-bluff
J8o from the BT. 2 limpers. Stacks are getting short, no one at the table has more than 23bb, so a 2x is a decent open. 2 callers. Flop is J36 mono di, top pair and flush draw with my 8. SB min bet, UtG flats. I semi-bluff 5x over and take it. Not sure that this was the smartest move. J as top pair with a weak kick isn’t that strong and an 8 in a 4-card flush is tricky against 2 Villains. I guess it was a good bluff. It worked anyways.
Hand # 1262107921
Final table. Cowboys on the BT. Short stack on my left jams for 3.5bb. I jam overtop with twice his stack (I would have jammed this regardless of action) and get iso. He has TT. It bricks. I win.
Hand # 1262108548
ATo from the BB. Folds to the SB who opens for 3x. I shove approx 10x. Villain calls with AJo. I’m dominated. I’m going home. Flop 47K mono-heart. He has A-ht. Run out goes K7 no heart. Buttlucky chop for me.
Hand # 1262110318
AK UtG. I don’t like shoving UtG but I can’t really fold AK at a 5-seat table. I’m in 3rd place and let it rip for about 10bb. Get called by one of the bigger stacks (approx 16bb) with AT-ht. We BOTH flop our kickers. I’m back in the chip lead. What a run of luck.
Hand # 1262110583
Very next hand, A8o from the BB. Short stack jams for 5bb. Heads-up, easy call. He has A5s. Flop kills his flush equity. 8 on the turn has him drawing dead. Cha-ching! We’re down to 4.
Hand # 1262114767
Queens from the BB. 3 of us left. BT short stack shoves. SB folds. I call. He has A5o. I narrowly avoid the 4-spade flush and I have the lead heads-up.
Gross Board
Hooks. I act first and open 2x. Villain calls. Flop A26-rb. Don’t care for the A but if he doesn’t have one I can push him off, so I bet pot. He calls again. Q on the turn makes things even worse. I give up and lose the chip lead. I think I played this one right.
Pure Buttluck
I shove QTo. He calls with KK. I’m toast. Then the chips come my way and I look up to see 3798J - Runner-runner straight!
The Finish
More drama. I 2x JTs. He shoves. I call. He has KQo. I’m crushed. We both flop pairs. I’m behind. I turn trips. I’m the champ.
I haven’t won an MTT in weeks and barely cashed anything lately. Was down 1.3M in the past couple of weeks, and I’ve never won a 20k regional before (came very close several times) so this one is huge for me.
Congratulations, these tournaments aren’t easy.
My last big result was yesterday. The tournament lasted almost three hours, and I finished second. My nerves got to me at the end, and I was just going all-in
I knew that I should have saved that last one.
