Resteal spot in MTT

Freezeout tournament. Small field, 150 players at the start.
16% are ITM.
Stay 55% of the field, so there is pretty much no ICM, only chipsEV here.
Average is at 32BB.
CO has 35BB and open 2BB.
You had 20BB in the BB.
Which is your reasteal range here ?

Depends on player type, and stack sizes. But assuming player is LAG, and that have 20 to 30 bb’s, and Lag has 25 to 35 bb, and blinds are big enough, and not too big, and not very good pot odds, and have a semi tight appearing image, then A2 suited to A8, K9 suited+, QTsuited to QJ suited, 22,33,44, and reraise all in. If reraise 4,5,6 x, they will often still call, so only reraise 4,5,6 x instead of all in if big enough stack so that have postflop playability(39 bb’s). This range is likely ahead of their range, and semi blocks hands like Ax to AK, Kx to KQ, AA, KK, QQ, JJ, and is a semi bluff, semi resteal. Don’t want to resteal lighter then this range. This range will still balance out when you reraise all in with a monster. Also when this works, show it so that when you have the goods next time, they might call.

If they are tighter, then range is A7 suited to A9 suited, KQ suited, 55, 66, 77, 88, KJ suited.

If they Between LAG and semi maniac, then A2, K2 suited, Q8 suited, Q9 suited, JT suited, T9 suited, 22

If they are a semi NIT, then AJ suited to AQ suited, KQ suited, 99, TT

Each of these ranges are semi slightly lower then the ideal ranges, and as such are semi bluffs, semi resteals, that semi ahead of the likely ranges that likely up against.

Even tho they are not full blown bluffs resteals, they are still just as good as bluffs, resteals, because when you show these hands, ranges, players, opponents will often think that you are bluffing restealing, when your range is ahead of their range.

By the way Dudamoti restealing is fighting fire with fire against big lags, maniacs, etc.

thank you because I’m very bad at MTT I have no preflop basics especially on these spots

The thing to remember, is that SB vs you on BB, Button vs you on either SB, BB, Cut off vs you on SB, BB, is like playing 2, heads up, 3, 4 players left at final table at end of tournament, as far as general standard ranges go, assuming opponents are standard as a baseline. That means a marginal starting hand raising range of opponent of:

76 suited, 87 suited, 98 suited, T9 suited, JT, J9 suited, T8 suited, Q8 suited, Q9 suited, QJ suited, K6 suited, K7 suited, K8 suited, K9 suited, KT, KJ, KQ, A2 suited, A3 suited, A4 suited, A5 suited, A6 suited, A7 suited, A8, A9, AT, AJ, AQ, AK, 22 to AA.

So Button, Cut off raising ranges can be very wide if up against the right opponent, at, in right stage of tournament, etc.

Your reraising, semi bluff, semi resteal range, is ahead of this range, on average, and even if behind, they will semi often fold IF IF they have a fold button, and if they are not pot committed, and if you have a semi tight image, and if you don’t do this a lot. So this should only be done semi occasionally, semi uncommonly, semi rarely, to LAG, MANIAC, LOOSE, high vpip, high raise frequency, high see the flop opponents.

Glad I can help.

A example of how wide button can be. I had A5 on blinds. Villain raised 76 suited about 3333, with blinds 750/1500. I had about 10k. Villain had 30k. Figured Villain had K9+, A6, 22, suited connectors, and that he might fold. I 3 bet reraised shoved all in, semi bluff restealed with actually best hand.

Villain busted out a few hands later. And I went on to win this 500k, 10 mil prize pool MTT.
