Confidence or Overconfidence?

Bluff
I know that this wasn’t the smartest thing to do (even when I was doing it) but I think it was good experience for me as I’m not a good bluffer. We are 6-handed after a limp pot and hearts comes in on the river. Being on the button (with air), the entire table has checked the first 2 streets, so everyone is weak. SB opens for half-pot, gets 2 folds and 2 calls. I decide to come overtop large, which is really crazy trying to bluff 3 Villains with air (and pretty dumb), but I learned something. Look how long SB tanked before calling with the (7-high) flush? I was THAT close to getting him to fold a flush! This is probably better for me than had he folded because then I would never have known just how strong a play I had made. Now, does it mean that I should try this again? Hell, no (not 4-handed anyways), but as a bad and unconfident bluffer, the experience was invaluable.

Also, look at the BB who called with a K. He checked that K as a pair on the flop and trips on the turn, yet was willing to call large against a flush on the river. I can see why he would be hesitant with a weak kicker on a 6-handed table, but I’m interested in thoughts on his river call here.

Boss
This one is about knowing the player. My larger pre sizing was really just to get everyone behind me out so that I could have position but it ended up working perfectly to isolate a player that I know is weak. It’s not just the name, he really does call a ton. I’ve played against him ever since I started and his bankroll is still spare change. I was actually the short stack of the tournament at that point with over 90 players left despite having over 400bb. When I flopped top pair with the J and meh kick, intuition told me that I was ahead and that he would call so I bombed for value. Yes, it could have backfired but the odds were in my favor.

We can’t see BB’s hand, ftr. We only know they had a weak K because you told us

Kx should probably just be folding to the river raise. Maybe you’re full of it, but what is broady calling with other than a flush or a straight? The only other holding that really makes any sense to call the 1200 is trips, but the BB is blocking that.

This is the problem with bluffing against hyper passive opponents. Their ranges are supposed to be capped with everyone checking two streets, but in reality they aren’t, because they just play scared with hands that should be betting.

Really? It shows clearly K8 to me.

Replay changed who can see the hands some years ago which I feel ruins the replay feature. I think only players who are involved can see the other’s hand. We usually can see the winner’s hand though.

If you were in the hand, you can see every hand that makes it to showdown, regardless of if it was mucked or not. If you were not in the hand, you won’t be able see any hands that were mucked. You will see the winner’s hand because that has to be tabled.

I believe you are correct that it did used to be different, but how it works currently is pretty standard for online poker.

@lihiue

As I stated, the change sort of ruined the “replay” feature of the site for me. It was similar to seeing the hole cards of the players on TV which boosted poker’s viewing popularity back in the early 2000’s. You sort of learned how players developed strategies. I’ll admit one could eventually see another’s strategy this way (which I would never do) but this is a free online poker site with no real money involved in poker hands.

And, it didn’t and hasn’t hurt the TV viewing popularity.

Oh, I agree. My comment about it being standard practice wasn’t directed at you, I just know there are players who complain about being able to see mucked cards even when you were in the hand.
Personally, I think it would be great if all cards are shown in the replay, after some suitable delay (eg after a week, you can replay any hand and see all the hole cards)

I’m pretty sure that was a big reason for the change because prior to the change there were a lot of comments about not seeing them. But there used to be a "gear" option where you had the option to show or muck your hand(s). I’m uncertain if it’s still available because I seldom used it.

I don’t believe anyone saw the mucked cards under the previous version if you chose to muck your hand.

But he didn’t muck. He tabled. Any hand tabled should be visible to anyone at the table or even at the rail. That’s stupid!

No, he mucks:

Dealer: zhao_cheng mucks

Small blind has a flush, which he can’t beat, so unless they explicitly choose to show, their hand will get auto-mucked. (@smooth99 you can still turn that off, which gives you the option to show or muck)

Then how did I see it?

For the first when he think of fold flush i dont think he think of folding flush he just was doing another stuff imo.

The 2nd hand is clearly well played idk why you post. he call 2 barrel with AK he calls with all pairs ok he can have KJ, AJ, overpair, two pairs but thats not enough combos compare to what you value
