Best Pet Story

I read a story on FB last evening and I wish I could copy and share but not able to figure that out.
The Pic was of a big dog (like a Rottweiler)dog sitting up and next to her was this cute, pretty lil curly headed girl (Meredith) with a big smile on her face.
The 14 year old dog(Abbey) had died and the day after she passed away, the 4 year old little girl was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. The little girl asked her Mother if she could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. Her Mother dictated the letter that Meredith wrote to God.
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you gave me her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
love,
Meredith
They put the letter in an envelope with the picture and Meredith addressed it to God/Heaven.They put their return address on it. Meredith put several stamps on the envelope because she said that it would take lots of stamps for the letter to get all the way to heaven. They mailed the letter. Days later there was a package wrapped in gold paper on their porch, addressed “To Meredith” Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, “When a Pet Dies”. Taped to the inside of the front cover of the book was the letter Meredith had sent to God in its open envelope. On the opposite page was the pic of Abbey and Meredith and a note:
Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in Heaven, having the picture was a great help and I recognized her right away.
Abbey isn’t sick anymore, her spirit is here with me, just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture, so I am sending it back to you to keep in this little book, a memento to remember Abbey.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your Mother for helping you write it and send it. What a wonderful Mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am very easy to find, I am wherever there is love.
Love,
God
On FB it said this story had been verified as 100% true, I was so touched by this I had to share. The story was signed by Mary Jane(assuming this to be Meredith’s Mother).
KIndness is always touching and hoping this story brings kindness to your heart to pay forward. :two_hearts:

THIS IS A TRUE STORY IT HAPPENED TO ME

Elsa AND FALCONRY IN NEW MEXICO

After graduating vet school, I had an offer to join an established practice in my hometown. It was a great place and very busy tending mostly to small animals, but we also had a contract with the city zoo, for their animals too.
After about six months, I was ensconced in the rotation and was working my Saturday shift in the late afternoon, when a mid-forties man came in with his very high pedigree German shepherd as a new patient. He was quite upset and asked that we put this lovely dog to sleep. He explained how it was his wife’s dog and it was her wish to do so. He further explained that his wife was ill and they were moving out of state for her health and there were no pets allowed where they had purchased their new condo. He went on to say that they had no family, and none of their friends were able to take the dog. His wife refused to send the dog to a shelter, and there were no rescue agencies around at that time.
I was appalled at the idea of doing as he asked, but he insisted that I do it. They were leaving in the morning for their new home and ours was the last place in town to do it. according to him two of the other practices in town were closed on Saturday and the other two had flatly refused. He was clearly emotional and was out of options. I again tried to talk him out of it but was unable to do so.
I told him I had to finish up my appointments and if he waited for a little I would do as he asked. He said that time was an issue and he had no interest in seeing the dog put down, so he paid the fee for the procedure and left the dog in my care.
When all of my appointments were satisfied, I went back to the recovery area pens where Elsa had been placed till I had the time to administer the injection. Looking at the dog I felt ill and was unable to put her down. She was beautiful and prime and I decided to postpone anything till Monday. I fed her and watered her and went home.
When Monday came I had formulated a plan to keep her around as a donor dog for the surgeries that we sometimes needed blood for. This would also give me time to find a new owner, and justify the expense of keeping her at the office.
Elsa was a friendly dog and the staff was happy to care for her daily needs. I found myself spending time with her as well and enjoying her company.
My wife and I enjoyed our house with eight acres of land and a new daughter and I suggested to my wife that we might bring her to live with us. My wife was not over joyed with the prospect of a large animal in the house with a six-month-old baby, but with some persuasion, she agreed to a trial visit for the weekend.
Elsa lived with us for the next twelve years as a constant companion for our family,
till a bout with cancer took her from us. She had been a source of joy to our children and accepted all of our friends. Elsa even attended both of our kids’ graduation, from kindergarten and elementary school. She was present at all soccer games and basketball games never missing a chance for a ride in the car. I still carry a picture of her in my wallet, proudly showing it to people while explaining that she was the best dog I had ever been around.(Sadly my wallet was taken in a robbery and I never got it back)
Fast forward about fifteen years. I am a full partner in the practice and my kids are grown and started families of their own, allowing me time to travel and to participate in my passion for flying birds of prey. My wife and I travel to new places every year for competitions with the birds.
One day, my friend and I are having breakfast in a café in New Mexico, grumbling over the fact that our early morning hunt with the birds was cancelled by the host, of the land at the last minute, and that we had no other places to go.
There was a guy at the table next to us, and he asked what we did with the birds.
He expressed some interest and we explained that we went to different ranches in the area and let the birds find rabbits and retrieve them. There was no damage to the property and rabbits are plentiful. He said he had a hundred or so acres and asked if would it be enough area for the birds to hunt. We assured him that was more than adequate.
He then offered us the use of his land with the stipulation that he could watch the proceedings, as he had never seen hawks hunting as we did. He told us his property was about twenty minutes away, and we were welcome to use it. We happily agreed and followed him home. He called his wife to inform her of his schedule and asked if she would like to come along, to which she declined.
We flew the birds with moderate success and acquired three rabbits each in about two hours. He was amazed at how the birds worked and came back to us surrendering their catch each time. We were standing there talking and getting to know each other, when his phone rang with his wife’s invitation of lunch.
He asked us to join him and the missus for lunch and would not take no for an answer.
We loaded up the birds and followed him to a beautiful ranch- style house with a gorgeous view of the mountains from the patio. His wife, named Beverly was an accomplished resident of the kitchen and had prepared a really nice spread for our enjoyment.
We ate and talked and enjoyed each others company when Beverly asked what I did for a living. I told her I was a veterinarian and she said they were not her favorite people. I asked why and she told me.
Some years ago, my first husband and I had a dog which I loved very much. I was in poor health and we had to move from the northeast to New Mexico. We were not able to find anyone to take the dog so my first husband had the dog put down. I have felt bad about it ever since and that was years ago. I have never had another dog nor wanted one as she was very special to me. My first husband passed away
and I remarried to the man Bill who found you in the café.
I asked her where she had lived before and when she said my home town I could not believe it. I opened my wallet and showed her the picture of my Elsa, and she got very emotional saying that’s her ,that’s her, and she cried.
I told her my story of Elsa, and the happy life and time we shared for twelve years with my family. She was very happy to know that Elsa had lived a full and happy life with a family that loved her and appreciated her and she gave me the biggest hug ever.
Ok so now I am retired and don’t fly the birds anymore, but every year when the snow falls at home, and we travel to see our kids we swing by and stay a couple of days with our new found friends, now old, Beverly and Bill, in New Mexico.
A’int it a small world. thanks for reading the story.
