Which songs make you think of sports or which songs do you hear most often at sporting events? Here are a few of my favorite songs that are played at sporting events.
Horse lovers will forever associate this music with the last performance by Valegro before retiring. Take a moment to watch the empathy of horse and rider.
Marc, I’m actually shocked that you didn’t include the Red Sox fans’ favorite song. This link explains its history. Enjoy this bit of local lore. And, by the way, I’m pretty sure Neil Diamond is a local guy.
I can’t believe I forgot Sweet Caroline! Definitely a great song and a Red Sox fan favorite!

It is also worth noting that Sweet Caroline is the anthem played at the match room boxing events organised by the promoter Eddie Ahern. Sweet Caroline is always played after the second boxer has entered the ring.
I was in pep band and when I hear these songs it takes me back to my high school days during football & basketball games. Carry on wayward son was crowed favorite.
The greatest game in English football is the FA Cup. It began in 1923 and is always played at Wembley stadium. Every club in the FA league, whether big of small takes part in the qualifying rounds and is the only competition where the little minnows of the league have the opportunity to become giant killers! The song Abide with me is sung at the start of every cup final game, and although originally it was sung spontaneously by the fans, it has been taken over in recent years by opera singers and celebrities. This one, if not the most “operatic” is more in keeping of the early years!
If you watched any Chicago Bulls games in the Michael Jordan heyday, you can’t forget the entrance to Alan Parson’s Project “Sirius”. IMHO it’s only a mediocre song, but it’s a great intro theme. (forgive me, I may be biased against synth music)
