yeah I read them both, your point is well taken about being a good starter/foundational text! I guess I’m thinking more about the bluffing/cbet advice specifically from Super System which can be considered fairly misguided in some places in hindsight, but I’m probably overthinking it lol
I have trouble believing that EVERY hand, without fail, that they are dealt meets the following criteria Pre-Flop;
- Extracting more value when they have a hand
- Protecting their hands. AA, if its vs 6,7 handed, is about 50% to lose by river, so raising to fold out some players to 1,2,3 callers is, can be better then getting 6,7 callers
- To gradually building up pots for hands that have great postflop playability. Hands like JT suited, QJ suited, QT suited, T9 suited, 98 suited, etc. Those hands often make good straights, flushes, 2 pairs, trips, monster hands, and are often disguised to opponents.
- Bluffing, set up later bluffs.
My opinion – it doesn’t. There are a lot of spoilers out there who will do that and depend on Lady Luck to bingo you if you stay in. If you fold, like a lot of us will do, they collect the Blinds. They simply don’t care about the game, it’s FREE, so who cares. They aren’t here to play poker, they’re just here to see how much they can steal. There are a number of truly hated players on this site and after a while you recognize them (or tag them) and just sit out. My 2 cents. Oh, and try the free tournaments – you risk nothing and can win chips!
Hi Younguru and everyone
I might know of the player you’re referring to and yes it’s a Royal pain.
Though I’ve noticed this person does at times fold or lesson the bet so others get a chance.
My problems with that style of play is if we don’t get to hsee the flop we don’t have a hope at that hand which might have been a win.
Most would I think feel they at least have a chance with strong cards which doesn’t always win but would likely be something they’d want to play.
It’s kinda forcing us to play with higher risk which some people like.
Many don’t want to risk their entire stack on just one hand which makes perfect sense to me
I’ve thought about this and see that for this player I’m thinking of it works for them, they have a very good ranking. I think others see the big wins and follow that way too but they need a whopping bankroll to do it as mentioned.
About the only positives I can see with this is there have been times I’ve gone with it and won some good pots.
I’d much rather if they were just random all ins.
One way you can avoid losing bigs at least for a hand or so is to reduce your chips to play with. Either before you start or if you have to fill up the stack again. I’ve noticed some people do that. Good thinking. Smaller losses and wins are smaller too but still an up
The reason I stick for a while at least at a table for the most is to play all styles cause not only there can be learning from it is that people play differently so unfortunately we’ll be up against it here and there.
Good knowing from comments here it happens less in tournaments and higher buy ins.
Like many people and I’m guessing you too guru is we just want to play poker as such.
I know it’s everyone’s choice how they play which can sometimes lead to criticism judgement and at times discord. I’m talking in general not having a go at you about this situation. I don’t at all like it either.
Hope you enjoy your time here. It’s a good game. All the best
@potqueen83 why I don’t mind when people play this way, in a nutshell:
you simply take all your ranges and shift them down in value accordingly. hands i would normally check behind, i 3bet more often. in addition to betting very often, this opponent bets LARGE often, so i adjust my calling frequency/size guidance accordingly: hands i would normally only call if the bet is < X, i now call even if the bet is 2X.
that is how i reached this river with just Q high and an open-ended straight draw facing a pot-sized bet on the turn. and that is why check-calling off my entire stack was an easy play on the river worked out this time hehe
Welcome to the world of free poker. If you really want to play serious, real poker, try going to a casino. The experience will be similar in low stakes games, but much different in real money cash games and high stakes tournaments or real tournaments involving a lot of players, not small tournaments involving just a few players.
Sure, players can get lucky sometimes, Jamie Gold proved that. But not always will that work. Again, Jamie Gold proved that, also.
Free chips.
They should have a way to prohibit guys with Millions of chips from playing in the low level rooms.
At the moment I’m still underage. I’ll be able to in March so at the moment this is the best it gets. Even then it’ll be a while. There are casinos in the state but most of em aren’t local. Lot of poker clubs though.
