Why not give the option to the final 2 players in tourney play of splitting the 2 top prizes? Sometimes it takes forever to get the final knockout.
That’s not poker.
It used to be possible on one of the pay sites. Maybe Full Tilt. So it is not completely unknown in poker.
Poker rules decide what the game of poker is not the players. I never liked this when it is brought up. Might as well play paper, rock, scissors.
It is done a lot (small level) BUT you really want to see a winner, especially here. I am better with 4-6 players so i rather play and i LOVE heads up so i am not splitting as i rather have first prize…PPl. here wait for the money but i play to WIN it all. I think i made the bubble achievement my first day on this site lol.
It is not unknown on online video poker but it is certainly not allowed in casinos and poker rooms around the world. The goal in poker is to defeat your opponent’s and win the pot as the poker rules allow not to split the pot heads up because the game took too long.
If you don’t want to commit to a tournament, don’t enter one. If a game takes a while, it probably shows there are somewhat skilful players at the table, nobody wanting to push the boat out too quickly. Doesn’t matter how long it takes, the goal is to be the last man standing, or sitting in this case. Enjoy the challenge, it’s poker.
Exactly ! Why try and change the game to meet a players need or perhaps they feel a split is in order because of no confidence in their game.
Winner takes all.
ABBA couldn’t have put it better themselves.
Funny, i just was playing a 7 stud-hi -lo tournament and i got lucky and it was down to 2 of us and the guy said " be nice if we just could split the prizes" i started lmao (because reading this yesterday) and i told him NEVER as i did not play for 2 hours to split anything, i won:).
Congrats Bill
So why do poker rules allow “horse race” hands to be run two times or even three times if the whole purpose of the game is winner takes all?
Because it’s a win , place, show horse race. It’s not even poker actually it’s like going to the track and I have no idea how that relates to the discussion of the last 2 players in a tournament with one of them asks to split the pot.
Winner takes the pot.
Your right and i HATE it, i never, ever ran a hand twice…Ridiculously, if u put all your chips (money ) in the pot you THINK you’re going to win, not split the pot lol.
Exactly correct my friend
I vaguely remember splitting the first and second prize with a guy on full tilt years ago, we had similar chip count and took about $250 dollars each, and played for the final hundred or so. The site offered this option and the support set it up. Made sense at that time for me.
How do you feel about it now ?
Well it was 17 years ago, a vague memory, probably do the same thing again if it was real money though, I’m pretty easy going about such things. The other guy suggested it, and I just went along.
I also won the spare hundred )
Confidence in your hand is key to winning it all.
My granny would disagree, “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”, I’m with the auld yin.
