I have never bought a chip and will not, but i think
those do is great for their support of the site.
soooo.a free loader? j/k lol
They might do better if they forget the chips and take donations like they used to.
People who get a thrill from slot machines can buy chips here, and get the same “thrill” by overbetting aka “All In”, which many call “bingo”, but we prefer slot machine, because that’s all it is. Those people will buy chips when they lose, repeatedly. The tremendous increase in players during the initial lockdowns and months after, was a great incentive for the site to be able to profit from this. You know what Richard Pryor said about “money talks”. jmo
I agree the term “bingo” is pretty stupid and inaccurate. I’m not sure how it relates to “style” of poker or type of player in any way! The thing is everyone has a different definition.
If you raise pre flop: “bingo player!” Cbet: “bingo player!” Raise more than 1BB: “bingo player!”
I had a player call off & bluff off their stack to me and laugh: “this is my 6th account!” They just kept buying a chip package on new accounts during a big sale!
There is lots of players at medium & high stakes playing slot machine poker or bingo AKA gambling.
I think most players on here refer to Bingo players (on Replay) who consecutively and repeatedly go all-in Preflop each hand. Not the examples, you’ve noted above.
yes OFC! But I’m frequently called a “bingo” player bc I’m not playing a style of poker players are accustomed & comfortable with AKA aggression. Essentially they want to play limit poker style poker on a NL poker table!
I well aware of the general definition most use bingo as. I use the term too, but I still think its a nonsensical novice poker word!
I think a bingo player is someone who views the game as one of luck as opposed to skill, like bingo. That covers a lot of ground as to different styles of play that would get you called a bingo player here. To me, some of the actions of bingo players are always entering the hand no matter what cards they hold, not reading the table, limping and checking a lot, always raising the first bet believing in the trigger, raising preflop, etc.
So over 90% of players on RP are bingo players?
What you are describing sounds like most players I encounter in med/high stakes. I would describe this a bad players and not “bingo.” Having said that, the term is so stupidly ambiguous IMO you could tell me any definition you could randomly think of and it would be counterproductive for me to argue against.
IMO poker is both skill and luck. The better players better understand the luck bc they have skill and are therefore winners!
I agree that the term is ambiguous. I was just stating where the term comes from.
A person who plays the game of bingo does not think to become more skilled at the game, as there is no skill involved, but rather to influence his luck. Perhaps he will have a rabbit’s foot or some other good luck charm or maybe, wear green socks or anything else that comes to mind. It is as varied as the player.
So, I offer such actions not because they make one a bingo player, because as you say those actions can simply reflect a lack of skill, but rather as some of the myriad ways in which a bingo player tries to improve his luck.
Agreed! I played a few high stakes tables on the site, and yes, it’s just different ways of playing. It’s a lot different game when playing for cash, at a table. Years ago, I took a side trip to Vegas when I was in LA (I know, the 70s, we could DO stuff!), and I don’t like gambling.
We went to a show, saw Ray Charles and the Rayettes (IKR?), then walked around Caesar 's Palace and other spots. I checked my change purse, and had 7 nickels, so put those in the slot machine. Won 2 cups of nickels, and my friend and I played for a while, had fun. But I learned how exciting it can be, and that was my only venture into gambling per se. LOVE a game of poor-house poker among friends, though. I “get” the thrill of betting it all, and yeah, no scorn for those who do it… not BINGO, more like slots … it’s the thrill! All good, and jmo.
PS. Yes, we have a casino in my city.l I’ve gone twice with friends for their birthdays, and a guy insisted on buying a few hands of BlackJack for me, but ack! What a waste of $10, TBH. So, my $0.35 in the slots was not my only experience, but it was my only LOSS. js
We are drifting a little off track here, please can we keep the discussion about the purchasing of chips?
Keep buying to keep the site a free to play site.
For a lot of folks that don’t want to buy there chips but want to support the site: Remember we can buy for friends to help them when needed and also help support the site
