Is rank effected by bought chips?

Just wondering if some people are buying their rank by buying chips or if it is only effected by chips they have won. I personally have no interest in buying chips as I’m building up pretty quickly anyway but I am intrigued to know. Thanks

Hi AncientEyes,

Since the poorly named “rank” here at Replay is based solely on ones bank account (and has very little to do with skill), the answer to your question is yes. Just remember, a player with a hundred million chips probably did not buy them all. There have been many discussions regarding rank here in the forums, a quick search should help you learn more.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Everyone repeats this “has very little to do with skill” line but frankly that’s a gross exaggeration and is just cope for most players, who themselves aren’t very good and as such have trouble raising their rank.

Rank on Replay is generally a loose proxy for skill. It’s not linear because at some point you reach such a high chip count that it measures longevity and activity more than ability, per se (Most of the Top 100 have been here for years). But the games on Replay are easy, and anyone who knows what they’re doing at all should be able to get to at least 50M chips even if they only play a few times a week.

There are some exceptions among players who mostly participate in league matches for very small chip prizes. But barring that group, most of the players ranked below 1,000 simply aren’t very good. They can’t really build their bankrolls because even on Replay, they are roughly breakeven players at best.

Buying chips is the least of your worries when it comes to the relationship between rank and skill. No one, or at least hardly anyone, is buying hundreds of millions of chips, and if they did they would just lose them all eventually anyway. The serial chip-buyers are mostly faring so poorly that you’ll never get a chance to see them with a super high rank and wonder how much of their roll was purchased. If you’re looking at someone in the Top 500 or whatever, there’s a very very very good chance that they won over 90% of those chips.

Couldn’t be more true, but after they muted me for a week, my pro ranking went up to 70% so maybe their system is working. I’ve only been on replay since August.

The narcissist donkeys will drone on about how skilled they are. How all the big bankrolls here are not purchased. Laughable. The math is what it is. If I we re betting. I bet poker winners wouldn"t be caught dead here. The residential inmates cant rub two nickels together in reality.
