Hi everyone!
My boyfriend is a professional poker player with over 15 years of experience. Before he came into my life, I had no idea about such a career. We have great communication, and we both have a decent understanding of psychology. In fact, my boyfriend manages tilt very well.
Right now, he is going through a downswing, and I don’t know how to support him. I am studying the game (it’s an important part of his life, so it’s important to me too) and I understand the basics pretty well, but I might miss some nuances.
Experienced poker players, please share some life hacks and the right words to properly support a poker player partner and make their life a little easier during such periods.
Context note: I, of course, do not give any advice on the game and do not suggest quitting the career, as warned on most forums/videos on similar topics. The question “how can I help right now” is always asked and traditionally answered with “nothing.” Calming tea is regularly provided upon request, and all loud and distracting people are sent on long walks around the city.
I’m more interested in hearing what professional poker players feel they are missing hearing from their partners: should I say more often that they are more than just poker? Or should I show more understanding of the game itself?
All hypotheses are welcome, personal experience is encouraged!
Thanks in advance for your response <3
