Global Poker Tour Observations and feedback

A couple of observations and suggestions on the just completed Global Poker tour Promotion.

  1. This year’s format with 5 games per day for 2 weeks was much better that the one a day rotating start times. There were games convenient for everyone each day. (Big +)
  2. Having a separate leaderboard for each timeslot/destination was much better than the previous format as well (Big+)
  3. Promo tickets over the course of the promotion encouraged more to play (+)
  4. Grand Finales turned into Super High Roller events (500K to 2.5 Mill) which severely limited the numbers despite the larger prize pool added (-)

Suggestion:

The grande finale shouldn’t have 1/3 to 1/2 of the participants of the other events. A suggestion would be to take a page from the marathons and give players an opportunity to win their way to the grand finales. IE The daily top 3 win a ticket to play with the High Rollers in the grande finale for that location.

Overall, I thought the promotion was much better than last years version and the participation numbers seem to reflect that.

I agree, poor Grand Finale structure. I slog for Two weeks, make Third in one city and then no Grand Finale for that city (New Delhi), but even if there was a Million chip entry fee is a serious barrier to entry.
Final tables need to earned not bought.

Hi @southwestmba @DeathPoker

Thanks for playing and raising all this.

We are already having a look at the participation. 38 players in the 2.5M event was actually well above what we hoped for.
Attendance overall is still largely governed by Time Zone, Tokyo was lowest by a margin, but still over 60 in the first week.

Giving entries to the Finale’s is a good suggestion.

I cant say when, but we will do this promotion again. It is one which we like and the numbers support that.

One question I have is about mixing PKO KO Leaderboards and tournament points. Did anyone specialise in either, or find they were put off by the MTT most convenient to their Time Zone being their least favourite format of the two?

If anyone else has comments, please speak up.
