Folding

That’s good advice and seems to be an area I need improvement on because I will follow a straight into the next hand. I don’t get why I find it hard when the nut is in the deck for my hand . Now as this comes into play I will think of the bingo balls being twirled around their cage and hopefully I will realize it’s only one hand and that cage isn’t going to drop my card 10% of the time lucky to get 2%to hit. Thanks for that bingo reference.

I study a lot of current poker theory, and it’s interesting your idea about “finding it hard [to fold] when the nut is in the deck for my hand.”

It turns out the solver REALLY hates folding (particularly in position) when it has a live draw to the nuts.

I’ve started becoming stickier with my nut draws, even backdoors, and so far it seems to be increasing my overall profitability (if not my winrate).

Of course there is always a point when the pot odds you are getting become prohibitively unfavorable (e.g. drawing to 1 out when facing any reasonable size bet is rarely worth it). But it’s interesting to note that your natural instincts here actually somewhat align with the solver’s recommended strategy: if you can still make the best possible hand, you have a pretty significant incentive to continue.

All that said, I do agree that not playing too many hands preflop and avoiding putting in too much money when you have slim odds to make your hand are very important fundamentals.
