Don't Ante Unless.....7 Card Stud Approach

With this simple approach, I have had more success than I normally do in tournaments (Omaha, Hold’Em, etc.), both 7 Card Stud and Hi/Lo.

(players are dealt two down, one up before “bring in” or ante)

For 7 Card High/Lo - You must at least meet one of these conditions:

  1. A pair
  2. All three cards are seven or lower
  3. All three are same suited

For 7 Card Stud - You must meet one of these conditions:

  1. A pair
  2. All three cards are suited
  3. All three same suited.
  4. Ace in the hole

Now, more skill/calculations come in with the following or fourth card options on whether to bet, but that is a different post topic.

Is it any fun? (the whole point, more than winning, in imho)

So one may go five hands without ante-ing or playing, but it will get you to the last room roughly 80% of the time. THEN, you can get your adrenaline rush.

But if one is watching a movie or sports simultaneously as I do, it is both a relaxing and rewarding approach (And it also acts as a tonic against those inevitable nimrods that think aggressively bluffing and betting - that is, they believe that intimidation = poker skills) If a hand meets the above conditions I match them blindly and take ALL their false bravado chips 2 out of 3 times)

Intimidation is poker skills tho :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The rules of stud games have been around long before holdem was even thought about, they are the finest bluff games, but not silly bluffs, just thought I would throw my oar in

True and certainly must be taken into account for those considering true odds of cards in hand vs others. And it is always easy to spot (and flinch) the bluffer who does not have any analytic or refuses to use analytics in play
