Badonk's Donks Stables Social Chat

Serbs is making sure he gets a crowd for his Open today…haha.

It was a filter issue. The box for our buyin had come unchecked somehow. Glad it was an easy fix! See everyone later today.

Serbs gets 15% of the gate, so don’t knock a guy for trying to pump up attendance. Over/Under sits at 34…

After yesterday’s Silver games, I’m sure everyone in our tier - and also in the Goldielocks tier - will agree with me that @husky111 is by miles the player of the month. Not only he won 2 consecutive tourneys recently, but yesterday he scored a unique 1st / 2nd in the same day.

A part from re-iterating my congratulations which I already sent him privately, I THINK HIS “CASE” REPRESENTS A MASSIVE LEARNING FOR ALL US SILVERS. Husky is a friend, we talk a lot about poker, and he’ll agree with me that at the beginning of this quarter he was constantly floating in the middle zone of each LB. He was a good player but he wasn’t outstanding, at least in terms of results. But he cared about it, and the fact that his passion and dedication didn’t correspond to his results at the table was really frustrating for him. But as I said, he cared. And therefore watched, asked, tried, and at the end changed, and improved.

I think his case is a distillation of what being a Donk means. It means having the privilege of playing with some of the best players in this platform on their best behaviour - they all sit at the tables wanting to play poker and not be tempted to bingo. It’s a privilege because if you’re humble and dedicated enough you can learn so much by observing other players styles, I for example learnt a lot by observing @kaasea 's TAG style, @Daveinc’s sharp aggressive style, but I could go on forever saying what I learnt from @nelson1952, @Johnoliver, @10dick1498, @Hawkus1962 and dozens of other players.

But I think the biggest learning is THAT CARDS ARE NOT THE ANSWER. We’ve all been frustrated by a bad hand or by a game in which we feel we had ridiculous cards. Or by a hand that we unfairly lost at river. I see loads of comments on the chat of players complaining about cards and luck and good or bad seats. But do you think @husky111 has been dealt better cards than all of us? Suddenly, in the last month?

The answer is that he’s learnt better than us how to approach a game. He never falls in love with his cards, he’s more than happy to fold when he’s not sure even if his instinct tells him he has the strongest hand. He’s learnt to deal with his luck and make the most of it when it comes his way, but to let go when it’s not worth. It’s a really difficult balance - I think, because I have NO IDEA what it means - but it can only come through playing. He’s focussed the whole game, he never plays irrationally, he’s always on it - damn!

But he’s learnt to be like that following the old Donk rule that B’Donk mentioned some time ago - play, improve, advance. I’m Italian and like all Italians I love soccer. What we always say about highly talented young players is yes, he has the potential but to become a star he needs to have a highly professional and dedicated approach, if not he’ll disappear like 90% of young talents, that will find excuses like the manager didn’t like me, I was playing in the wrong position, I was unlucky in the important games.

We Silvers are mostly like that, young talented players that need to work hard to become a pro, i.e. a Gold, a HOFer, whatever.

I’m the first one who’s complained about his cards and the river losses, so I’m the first one to thank Husky for his lesson.

It’s sad to see the Silver tourneys too often so empty, I would like to have bigger, more important, more challenging games, and as a consequence to be able to congratulate a new Husky every month. Goldielocks tourneys are much busier than ours.

Hope this can change.

Ale

P.S. my cards yesterday were s**t

… and please note that I’m saying all this on the day in which I lost my top 3 ranking in the Composite LB, so I’M FURIOUS!

What other explanation could there be? Honestly?

SERIOUSLY…
Congrats to Husky 11, my best pal here for months, on his great day and great play.

I told him time and again, “how can Sergente be higher than you on the LB’s? He likes soccer more than poker, you can beat him! And when you post Barry, you do it in a sentence, not a page and a half. Win this Silver thing and get up to gold where you belong!”

Well, he’s finally heard me - or he’s just suddenly getting better cards than everyone else!

GREAT JOB HUSKY – and SERGENTE as well.

And a HAPPY DONKSGIVING ALL.

Thanks Tom for being our spiritual leader, why don’t you tell me the same? I’ll hear as well …

My messages are a torture test, if you can survive reading through them, you have the commitment and the patience you need to be a great poker player …

Ales,as you can see, is prone to exaggeration. Read my profile and you’ll see I’m just thankful to be a Donk. When Chuck recruited me, I had recently bought chips so I wouldn’t have to wait for the daily gift that Replay gives us (I think it’s 2000 chips) and could play in better tournaments. I really don’t know what Chuck saw in me, but I thank him routinely.
Sometimes, as one begins to improve, a little word here and there by a seasoned Donk player can make a huge difference. I have received these words from Pris and Jack ( regarding my team play) and from Jack and John (12beat) regarding my individual play. Jack would tell me things and I’d say,“Ok, I’ll NEVER do that again.” Then, in the next game I’d do it again… and again. I heard Jack, but I did not listen. I listen now! More recently John gave me a huge piece of advice that I’ve put into my game with great results (probably not huge to anybody but me). He sensed how little confidence I had in myself.(I didn’t know it was so apparent. I guess that’s part of what makes John such a strong player. He reads people well). And while I’m at it, I can’t say enough about crazy Tom who has cheered me on, boosted my confidence and made me laugh at critical times. Well, actually - all the time.
I’ve acted on all the advice I’ve received, probably not as quickly as Jack would have prefered, but he’s a man of infinite patience. My goal is to make it to the Golden Donk level, but not to become a Golden Donk. The Golden players are tough. As I told Bad, I may be, if I’m lucky, the first Silver to refuse to move up. You see - I still need to work on my confidence.
