I like to find a table and play until my time is up. I have not tried a tournament yet.
Ring games take far less time to compete in
Ring games can be played anytime, where as tourneys are at designated times (sometimes not when I could participate).
I love the beginning, middle, and end of a tourney. Ring games just continue. There’s no rising action, crisis, denoument, falling action in ring games. (I taught English. lol)
I have played both but prefer ring games. i like the option of leaving a table when i feel the need to.
I find ring games have many players betting stupid hands for too much money. Tournaments don’t seem to have this same type of game play too often.
I like them both but I don’t like waiting for tables to fill up on MITT’s.
Tournaments take too long, whereas I can jump in and out of ring games quickly if I need to.
The tournaments are fun because you see a lot of new people. The ring games are fun because of the betting method.
I’ll take the SnG most of the time, but occasionally enjoy some time on ring games. It’s a whole different vibe. MTT tourneys … meh.
I like the ring games simply because I can come and go as I please and can usually play anytime I want.
I like both format equally.
Ring games allow you to improve your poker fundamentals.
While MTT allows you to use your fundamentals to the fullest and also having to consider Independent Chip Model a.k.a ICM.
Last but not least, you can practice for the WSOP by playing MTT and SnG on Replay Poker (The Best Play Money Poker Platform ever!)
damn, great question, I agree with DaWinner, only one I read, it all depends what mood Im in,
I think the tourneys are funner because they are more challenging.
Ring games are a requirement for certain achievements whereas tournaments are far more lengthy and require playing in the same “league” for certain achievements.
They are such different disciplines that they are almost different games entirely, but …
The reason I voted for tournaments is because for a discrete known buy in, you get as much poker as your skill can bring you, and isn’t that what poker is all about?
(Ring games are fun too, whole different beast)
Ring games are fun because if the cards are not fun to play with you can stand and leave (move on) to another table. Tournaments on the other hand are thrilling you are committed to that seat and the excitement of the flops to the last chip.
I like the challenge of trying to survive to the end, and the satisfaction of beating so many players to win a tournament.
I like both, the challenges are different and many times I just want to play for a short while.
Some people will bet wildly because the chips don’t have monetary value. However, in a tournament or SNG, the chips have value. The value being that you have to have chips to remain in the tournament. This encourages more responsible play, I think. Removes some of the aspect of the chips not having monetary value. That’s why I prefer tournaments and SNGs.
