Yup, you made the beginners mistake there. With the flop coming 333, you were behind anybody who held a 3, and with several players limping into a pot, that was a possibility.

You are also behind anybody who is holding a pocket pair, and behind anybody who has a queen or a nine.

So your flush does not have much value.

You re-raised the early position player all-in, but this was a pointless bet, because you would probably not be able to bluff anybody who had a full house off the pot, and certainly not anybody who had a three or a queen, so anybody who calls you is surely beating a flush.

Hi acroz21,
You ended up with a Diamond flush.
Your opponents had a queen each witch makes them a full house.
threes full of queens. any time in holdem that three of a kind comes up on the board. all you need is a pair to make a full house. 333QQ .they only had to use one card out of their hands witch matched the Q.
I hope this helps…

Exactly. A full house beats a Flush.

Take your time if you are new to poker, and learn the winning hand combinations, what beats what and practice board reading, that’s vital. Also they are called chips, not coins.

I didn’t know that you could do a full house without having anything in the trio, it’s quite unfair and meaningless. I have a lot to learn but a pair beating a flush doesn’t make sense to me, you shouldn’t be able to build a full house that way

Winning hands (in order from worst to best) are as follows: High card, 1 pair, 2 pairs, 3 of a kind, straight (five cards in sequence such as 9-10-Jack-Queen-King), flush (5 of one suit), full house (three of a kind plus a pair), four of a kind, straight flush (5 sequential cards of the same suit), royal flush (as with straight flush but 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace).

It’s not unfair or meaningless, it’s poker. We didn’t make the rules, the game has been around way before any of us were around. As I said, take your time and do your research before complaining.

The best five cards are what determines the winner, and you didn’t have them. You had an Ace high flush which most of the time is going to be a winner as it’s a nut flush, but full houses always beat a flush, unless the flush is a straight flush. How a player makes a hand regardless of whether they hold great cards or whether they only have one card, but are able to use four cards from the board in order to make the nuts is irrelevant. Two opponents made full houses against you, so they split the pot and you lost. To lose like that sucks, but it happens to everyone, and you better get used to it if you plan on continuing to play poker. Sorry for your misfortune.

Thank you for your comment, I’m still freaking out, I’ve only been playing for 2 weeks and I had no idea that with just a pair you could form a full house and destroy people who had more elaborate and better hands like a straight, a set, a flush, The next time I see 3 of the same cards on the board and I have a pair I go all in :joy:

Be careful, because as you saw in the hand you lost, there can be more than on player with a full house. I recommend you watch videos by Blackrain79 on youtube to learn how to become a good holdem player. His videos will certainly help your game. Good luck and don’t give up.

It is worth noting that ANY time there is a pair on the board, there is a chance that someone has a full house and a flush is beaten.

If there are three of a kind on the board, then clearly any pair makes a full house, but the question is who has the highest pair (or four of a kind), so if you have a small pair you probably don’t want to risk your whole stack. Remember that if you have a pair of fours and your opponent has a pair of fives, neither of you will know if you are ahead or not.

As regards making a hand without using your own cards, look at it this way. Supposing the board is showing Ace king queen Jack 10 of diamonds, so a royal flush. Are you going to fold if your opponent bets all in? Hell no!
