I had a straight the best hand.
3 players involved
- Player 1 goes all-in with their short stack and me and player 2 calls
- I then fold on the flop
- I end up with the best hand, a straight but the pot is given to a player with a 2-pair
- I thought that once the player goes all-in that is a side pot that everyone is committed to if they call and have a chance to win even if they fold later on.
you folded, your hand is ended

When you folded your hand on the flop, you stopped contesting for the main pot and a possible side pot. Only the player with the short stack who is all in is committed to the main pot since they were all in preflop.
I understand this can be somewhat confusing, but player 2 is also contesting the main pot with player 1 and you, so it would be unfair for player 2 to make a play vs you so he can contest the main pot with player 1 and you still have the ability to win the main pot when you folded your hand.
