My player rating moves a lot. was wondering how it is calculated?

When you say rating I assume you are referring to your rank. Rank is based solely on your bank and just tells you how your bank compares to all other players on this site. It is not a very useful metric as chips can be purchased, although a player with hundreds of millions of chips probably did not buy them all. There have been other posts in the forums on this subject and some interesting discussion. If you are curious try searching the forums. Hope this helps.

@das32343 explained it beautifully. Another way to look at it is that your rank reflects how much of your life you have wasted playing a card game with strangers on the internet. My rank is in the Top 200 now, as I have replaced “sleep” with “250k buy-in tournaments”

Let us not forget when replay has a chip sale (which is often) your rank will go higher.
That is not the direction you want it to go lol.
