I agree with your opinion about exploring new variants and formats although if you are a beginner player the best is to find game that you enjoy a lot and focus ll your energy on becoming the best you can.
I agree with the first point especially.
A good example is Limit Holdem, a Holdem variant that will help you understand and getting comfortable with concepts like hand odds or pot odds, or implied odds. Another example is Seven Card Stud that will build your reading abilities a lot. These are skills that can be used in NL Holdem. I think that they are mandatory skill to be honest.
The think that I want to add is that you can mix different game types, like cash games and sit n go’s too. When I started playing poker I used a lot to play cash games and SnGs.You can break moments of boredom in this way.
First of all, I would like to thank you for a great topic.
The variety of poker types is really amazing and unlike Hold’em, many types of poker really open up new horizons.
I really like Omaha and Stud. Especially hi/lo. Here you reveal poker as a completely new kind: there are so many options that you would never play in hold’em, but how interesting it is to play these games. A huge spector of combinations that you can collect.
I am absolutely convinced that everyone should try these types of poker.
I’m also partial to Royal Hold’em. Despite the fact that, in fact, this is the same, familiar to us, hold’em, it’s a pleasure to play it and you think absolutely differently when playing this Type of poker.
Unfortunately, there are few places where you can find such a type of poker as OFC (it is often called pineapple). But, if you ever play this kind of poker, you will be absolutely shocked. It’s a lot of fun.
I would like to play more often at least in Omaha and Stud. But alas.
you may need to go to cardschat and join the variant league to play 2-7 Single Draw, 2-7 Triple Draw, Razz, Badugi, 5-card draw, Short Deck. although replay is a great place to practice they do not offer those games. they are great for the Omaha and 7-card Stud, and also their Hi-Lo versions.
There are many variants of poker, in particular I can play many, one format that I really like is horse because of its variety of play and believe me, mastering many of them will make you a better player and acquire more skills.
in my opinion it is always necessary to learn something new. If you are only playing nl holdem without a variant, it is only a question of time that you feel bored.
To try out variants of poker games you arent familiar with, is very helfpful to improve your tactic @table.
You will figure out that there will be moments where you have to play not in your tipical style you played before. This is always good for personal further development.
A variant that Replay chose is royal poker, but has gone too far in its simplicity.
It’s missing two possible hands – flush and straight flush - because all flushes are royal flushes.
This can be easily corrected by removing just the 2 thru the 6, instead of the 2 thru the 9
The game is played just regular Texas Hold’em, except a flush now beats a full house.
The game is called stripped deck poker and is played in some casinos.
I agree with you completely, can’t stand Royal, won’t ever play that one again, but I would like to try stripped deck poker as you mentioned if Replay would offer that.
I had an idea I thought would be fun for NLHE which would be 2 deck poker whereas a Royal can get beat by 5 of a kind.
I like badugi and 27 draw, I would like there to be more tournaments in that modality, sometimes there are tournaments but they are a little big for my bankroll.
It’s good that Cardschat has a league with these types of poker.
As a begginer, I only play No Limit Texas Hold’em due to its simplicity and action. However, I believe I should try other variants like 5-card draw and Stud, because they offer valuable lessons in strategy and creativity. So I will probably give them a try!
i’m new at poker, playing NLTH. Its dificult for me to try to improve my gameplay ands learn other variants of poker. But , as you mentioned, these variants are a way to improve more my strategies. i’ll give a shot. TY man.
Thank you for the article. Previously, I was afraid to play Omaha and I didn’t really like it, but then I tried it and I even really liked it. in poker you need to try different games
As a poker player, I recently felt the need to be more well-rounded. In an effort to do this, I joined a “Poker Variants League”. Even though I did not do as well as I did in the League where we play just Hold’em, it was still an interesting experience. I have decided to give it another try and really study the other variants - I just find that there are so many made hands in some of them - that it really is a minefield to navigate with much care, especially when choosing your starting hands.
I would encourage any poker player to learn the other variants - who knows, who may find one that is very profitable. Go for it!
