Super answer, and it helps me understand a little bit what I’ve been doing without having been able to articulate it. Thanks, Bugsy!
I was thinking that all the players running down the clock were doing it from distraction or to tilt others but a few times I have checked or folded and for some reason the boxes greyed out and nothing happened until the clock was done? So I now assume that some others are glitching in that way and it is not their intention to slow roll the table.
Some people know how to use the clock to their advantage and some do not.
We must be related somehow in thoughts at least @BugsyWhite ,
I want to be as unpredictable as possible!!!
And all the while they are thinking perhaps a slow connection lol.
There are way too many players that do this on every hand, I think once in a while is ok but not every time, UGH
I’m not saying it’s a great strategy by any means, I’m not one of those who does deliberately slow the game up by letting the timer run out, but one thing I will say is, same as going all-in pre-flop, there is a time and place for it. When you’re a few places short of paying positions with a small stack, you don’t mind seeing the remaining numbers drop one by one while waiting for someone to make their decision. In those circumstances, it’s not the worst thing.
But doing it all the time would not make much sense to me.
I don’t have a problem with it except for those that do it and always fold anyway. It doesn’t take the full clock to know you’re going to fold. All it does is irritate others, and if that’s the goal, it doesn’t say much for you as a player. They’re free chips, so why bother?
I definitely use it in exactly the way you describe here, BeerEagle69. I want other tables to lose players so I am not on the bubble. I slow the play to allow those who aren’t slowing it and who are gambling big at other tables (or my own) to go out and leave me in paying position.
That’s exactly how I use it. Other than that no, I don’t deliberately use the clock to my advantage. I’m here to play. More hands the better, less players the better to get me in the money
Same here my friend, fighting for position. Must place in the chips to even have a shot at getting to the final table and Win!! Gl at the tables
I hear you, I just prefer to not inconvenience others if I can help it, after all I’m playing with free chips on a website, not putting down a million chips at a real casino.
In my opinion, this is not an honorable way to play, rely on your skills and not the clock, it is disrespectful to the game and other players to slow down play, that is just my personal opinion.
Using the clock is an exceptionally good tool to great poker play and is extremely useful in bluffing and putting players on tilt. Don’t you watch the pros on TV or play at live cash games?!?!
The player might be playing with a handicap or a slow internet connection. It is what it is and we have no way of knowing so I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. It’s not an emergency for you to lose your chips right ?
