Recently I played a tournament, I did well and got into the bubble but nothing crazy. But eventually I busted out. These tournaments seem to go on forever and my head gets cloudy. Lots of fatigue. Not just mentally but physically. How do you guys cope with very long tournaments? I tried reading a book on hands I wasn’t playing but couldn’t concentrate…
Place your computer on a wooden stool next to your bed.
Turn the sound on 100%
When you fold, close your eyes and wait for the sound of the next deal.
A quick look at your cards and fold again.
Close your eyes and repeat.
This will give you an advantage later in the tournament.
Of course, you’ll need another spot for your computer when you’re 100% rested and alert.
Fatigue is real for many players and being 100% aware of what’s going on is not always
possible.
So midway through the tournament, lay down on your side and use this method for
10 - 15 hands.
Make sure you have enough pillows to keep your neck and shoulder comfortable.
When you reach the final table, you’ll have an edge by being a bit more rested.
I had 8 tickets for the marathon and decided to play all 8 games.
I was working on no sleep, but I used this technique and arrived in 4 TH in the early
morning hours.
Very good question bananaboy47
Good luck at the tables!
Get a comfy chair. No joke. Be comfortable. Have your drink next to you so that you don’t dehydrate. I usually have tea. Alcohol will dehydrate you (and make you pee), so don’t.
Get excited to play. Nothing crazy, just take a minute or two before you start to focus on how fun it is to play. This will perk you up. Sometimes I add some stretches or even a little exercise. It gets the blood going and keeps me comfortable in my comfy chair.
No, not the Spanish Inquisition Comfy Chair, like an actual comfy chair.
Patience, self discipline and stamina are required. If you lack any one of those attributes. Forget tournament poker. Go back to roulette and blackjack. Playing a session at Foxwoods early in my poker history. I sat at 7 pm and left at 8 am. Up $1. Another true story. Same weekend at Foxwoods. The very first tournament hand I ever played in my life. I get AA. I checked it. Two go all in. I call. My opponents hits his set of tens on the river.
fold a lot, it helps
About a comfy chair… I always sit on the floor, got no chair or desk and my set up don’t allow for much comfort. I can lay down though… With the thing about closing my eyes I think it will help. I have a tendency to hyper analyze my opponents. A little of that thinking is good but I should probably just focus on making the right decision. (and get used to playing 2 hours most of the time at tables at most I play 40 mins)
Change that.
I do a fair amount of writing and writing often requires me to sit in front of the computer for hours on end. I used to have a less comfortable chair and it really restricted my ability to be productive when I just couldn’t stay seated any longer (tired back, sore shoulders, etc) despite the fact that my brain was deeply in writing mode. I got a better chair that suited me and the problem was solved.
I’m broke and been looking for a job for 6 months straight unfortunately I don’t think it’s much I can change…
Sorry to hear that and I hope that you find some income soon. I know what that is like. I was recently unemployed for over a year.
However, I did manage to find my perfect chair for 65 bucks at a box retailer, although I have had to repair it twice.
None of my business:)—VERY hard 2 believe, there are help wanted signs EVERYEHERE-my wife has a store n has 2 work a lot because no one wants 2 work.
That is 11 hours, not bad my friend–when younger n playing 7-stud, i would play for 48 hours straight n i had a room in the casino but awww we were poker degenerates back then:).
I post goofy things on here- like RIGHT now- when playing a long tournament:)
That’s kind of rude… I try my hardest and get rejected by everyone in town for you to say these type of things. I don’t know where you are but its very dry over here.
I am VERY sorry, did not mean 2 be rude my friend…Just, here in Pa. there are jobs everywhere and decent starting salary but ppl. seem 2 not want 2 work n my wife has 2 work wayyyy 2 much as she is the manager of a store…good luck, again, i did not mean 2 be rude.
