Scariest Critter You've Ever Seen

I knew they were bad but did not realize how fast their venom works- 20 minutes!! 6 hours and you are dead-without an antidote.

Scary stuff right there!

A large snake that I saw in Africa. In general, I’m afraid of snakes, but this snake was much larger than those I saw in the zoo. After that I decided to travel only in the cities of the world…no nature

Most of us are only afraid of big snakes, little snakes and sticks that look like snakes.

I was stealth camping with my rock climbing partner at Hueco Tanks State Park. Instead of paying the $2 camping fee, we had hidden the truck and climbed to a 10’ x 15’ ledge about 20’ up.

In the middle of the night, Mark threw a small rock at my head to wake me, and then motioned with his eyes to the place where we had built a small fire earlier. The fire was long out, but standing there was a mountain lion.

As I was looking, it made eye contact with me, so I quickly averted my gaze, looked back to Mark, and shrugged. I don’t know what he expected me to do, but fighting a lion bare handed while 20’ off the ground on a ledge didn’t seem like a valid option, and running wasn’t an option either.

So I did what, to me, seemed like the only reasonable thing; I rolled over and went back to sleep.

When we got up the next day, we saw that there were huge paw prints all around our sleeping bags. I guess the mountain lion had walked around us, coming within inches of us, and no doubt giving us a good sniff to see if we were worth eating. I guess we weren’t.

I now realize that the cliff was probably where he hung out when on the hunt. The elevation gave him a good view of the desert below, so it would be a great place to look for dinner.

While on a fishing trip in South Carolina, we arrived at our friends where we were going to stay. Before we even enter the house, my Sister who loves snakes, and knowing I am petrified of them, reached down to pick up a baby one and tossed it in the lake. Next she was told it was a baby copperhead which we learned are more potent than the big ones. OMG was all I could say as she laughed and said OOPS! Now you all have me watching closer for spiders in the house. Country living. Yes, I have a bug man. Stay safe e1.

We had built the small fire to heat up a couple of cans of beef stew and a can of baked beans. I had used an Army issue leather glove to pull the hot cans out of the fire, and am pretty sure some stew juice had sloshed onto the glove. At any rate, the glove was gone the next morning.

The odd thing is that I don’t remember being afraid at all. Maybe I was and just don’t remember that part, but I did roll over and go back to sleep, so I couldn’t have been that scared.

I went back to sleep for several reasons; first, it was the least threatening option, (which is also why I broke eye contact.) Second, it showed a lack of fear, and I knew that predators sense and respond to fear. Third, I was tired and we had a big day ahead. And last but not least, it displayed panache, which has always been important to me.

That is correct - adults only want to use venom to kill to eat - and know how much venom to release to do the job - babies on the other hand don’t know this yet and release all they can - lets call it overkill - lol - Sue - i am scared shiteless of snakes as well - but find them fascinating - i live in Canada so I dont really have to worry - not like India or Australia - or even parts of the States.

Speaking of snakes, omg I don’t want to run across any of theses :flushed:

These are some scariest critters you’ve ever seen ….
