Greetings Carin,
I do apologize for misunderstanding your post. I’ve included the 2 excerpts that I got myself turned around on. When I read this, I’d seen the text in singular form or tense, no S’s on the end of either. That’s how I missed it, especially after I had posted the “Contrarian view” post. Hoping you can now see my confusion. Again, please accept my apology.
On the issue of generic terms that get used and bantered about so freely towards and about other
players … It can be very hurtful, some of the things that get said. Each one of us owns a thousand different forms of fear and insecurities, all within us. Most deal well with this amazing emotional juggling act our whole lives. Others need help and encouragement, and maybe most of all, a poker friend who can show them stuff.
Certainly nobody’s obligated to reach out like that with others, but it sure can be pretty rewarding sharing your knowledge and experience with a few others half way round the world. … Everyone will soon know the ones I’ve been working with… they’ll be occupying more real estate in the cash out areas of the tournaments. There is much more fun to be had here at Replay…
I’ve been off the forum for some time now. It was a good idea when I just stuck with playing poker and meeting others that way.
banter, whats banter.
BANTER ;. badinage, joking, jesting, pleasantry, persiflage, tease, twit; ridicule, deride, mock.
Bout covers it my friend. lots to choose from … Hope everything is going good for ya Harley …
LOL that was cool
always on replaypoker .
We all have stories on the poker pest. The raunchy railbird is mine to tell. On a money site I formally played, there was a special promotion. To highlight the “excitement” of being one of the lucky tables, spectators were allowed to comment. Usually the site didn’t allow any railbird chat but it did for that event. Spectators (railbirds) became so insulting and continually bombarded the players with personal and profane comments that the site shut down the railbird chat. I saw it and it’s not what you want to have happen in any online community, especially in poker.
Happened in a live game too. There was one spectator who would knock on the glass behind the table whenever he figured a player had a hand as a warning to others. He got so annoying that the Floor finally called security to remove him. Whole time they’re escorting him out he’s screaming “What’s wrong with railbirding?” Had to ask the dealer what he meant. Believe it or not, that advice about the railbird, (remember you’re in the game, not the railbird), was given to me by the dealer.
By the way, no apology necessary as no offense taken.
