Donkeys are everywhere, you cannot avoid them. Try looking at his hand history maybe he does that kind of play all the time… you never know. Btw, I will sometimes call a large preflop raise with low cards after watching betting patterns for a while if I feel I know how a player bets. Sometimes I catch, more often I don’t but it is all part of trying to not be predictable. Besides, we all know streaks happen, maybe he was on a streak. Play on, play well, have fun, and learn as much as you can…

well…
Two other players call you pre-flop, likely with garbage too because they fold on a very dry flop. They’re all just gambling on hitting something - this time one of them does, but the other two don’t. Also, by the time action gets back to the small blind, he’s not risking that much to win a bloated pot. I’m not saying 53o is a good call, but it’s not as crazy as it first seems after you consider the pot odds.
