At startup, the length of the game will be determined by how many teams there are. Right now we are at a 9 handed SNG level of time that could expand as more teams join.

If the league becomes popular down the road, we will look into having a second time. Right now we are trying the best we can to accommodate our other leagues, but at some point there is just no avoiding overlap. The target market is the USA and Canada, East Coast, some early West Coasters, Euro friends, and other times and countries around the world this works for.
Yeah, for me it makes little difference because I’m unlikely to be able to play much either way, but there must be people who would likely be able to make most games, but never all of them. Being able to subtract off low scores helps, but there’s still a huge advantage to being able to put in volume. It would be nice if there was a league where that wasn’t the case. I’m not even sure Free Agents is a good solution to that, or if there is one, but I do think there’s a place for a demand for a league like that if anyone can figure out a good way to do it.
@lihiue There is a league I started a little over a year ago that is a place where we make player-requested games and host player appreciation games. 3 of those games eventually became a quasi league called the High Roller Series. If you ever want to design something, I and my fellow organizers would be happy to discuss and possibly host it. The league is a sisterhood of 5 leagues where players have an option to participate or not; there are around 300 members. It’s games don’t have a huge draw, but the games are fun.
@lihiue come play in Nordic Warriors. It is an Individual league, we don’t have minimum attendance requirements you can play when ever you like as often as you like. In a team driven league the team management aspect has to come into play. Setting your team, aligning your team, managing your roster is a key aspect to team play. A team should not gain an advantage if someone does not show up. If we have a “ringer” in the alternate pool you are giving a team a reward for poor team management. We allowed an alternate and a smart captain with an alternate would rotate their players to keep them engaged which is part of the team concept.
Well if the team doesn’t know who they’re going to get, I’m not sure it’s an advantage, but fair enough - I think I just misunderstood what the purpose of the alternate was.
Funny you mention team management though, because I was just thinking about how much fun a fantasy league might be. I think it would have to something Replay run, but here’s how I imagine it might work:
- Run a high buy in tournament where the top ten players win tickets to be team managers. The entry fees become the prize pool, split between the winning manager and the highest scoring player(s)
- Each manager would have a roster of say 6 players and would get to pick 3 to be active and score points for them each round
- The actual tournaments would just be normal tournaments. They could be any buy-in or game type, and there could be multiple tournaments per round.
- Managers would be able to swap players from their roster with any unclaimed player or make trades - all the usual fantasy stuff
- Split some of the entry pool with the highest scoring players, but mostly the motivation on that end would be just to get added to a roster.
- Run it over like 8 weeks or so
