Omaha Hi-Lo, are you more aggressive with bets when playing for the Hi or Lo pots

When playing Omaha Hi-Lo, are you more aggressive with bets when playing for the Hi or Lo pots, assuming after the flop you hold a very good hand to play on either?

I am no expert by any means in Hi-Lo but am more aggressive playing for the Lo pot, if I see a possibility of winning both pots.

I just started playing this game about a year ago…I actually think more aggressive for the hi because many times the low is split with the nuts etc. BUT the high nuts you know you got at least half the pot. When playing 7 stud hi-lo i am MUCH more aggressive for the low as very few split lows and you get 2 or 3 players fighting for the hi so you keep raising and you know you will get a nice half of a big pot.

Same here when playing 7 card stud hi-lo and agree, how many are playing the hand and pot size can make one get, even more aggressive with good cards.

I’m never aggressive when I have the nut low or when the high is a straight as these winners often get quartered (or worse) As far as “being aggressive”, it really depends on the other players, how many are in & whether they are known to me as conservative or bingo players. With bingo’s, it’s all-in on river if I have nut high.

I just wait patiently and then when the pot is full I play aggressively knowing I have the nuts.

It is for me very important to know who and how the other players, play their hand’s also, when the pot/risk is worth the reward. I feel there is another category should be included. Maybe plays conservative, bingo or somewhere in the middle. Just can’t think of the name for that category.

And yes @Craig_Anthony I just wait patiently and then when the pot is full I play aggressively knowing I have the nuts.

I played Stud and had a good Lo, but no pair and nothing for Hi. I saw no one can have and get the same Lo or better and made a bet, not very high, to bring chips to Pot. All folded and i won Lo and Hi alone. This can happen too. No one knows for what a player bet on Hi/Lo. Replay gave me the bluffing achievement for this, lololol. Nice.

Been there @Poki65 in stud Hi-Lo also.

I am no expert by any means in Hi-Lo but am more aggressive playing for the Lo pot, if I see a possibility of winning both pots. If I have the patience and discipline to reach my set goal that constantly changes, which hopefully will be for the win at the end of a long tourney.

I played a freeroll MTT maybe 2 years ago and went absolute nuts almost every hand ALL IN, when it got down to less than 40 players. I was trying to exit. It was very difficult to lose bc of the low pot. I switched modes a few times and started playing less stupid after winning a bit & ended up finishing about 5th maybe. I very much doubt my “stupid bravery” would have survived in NL Holdem! OFC 1 MTT means very little, but the low deff helped me a fair bit IMO.

I recently read in the RP Help Center “Omaha hi/low” that draws like straights and flushes can have less equity bc of the low side pots… To me this would mean adding some bluffs more with good draws and possible low hands would be +EV and calling draws too frequently would be lower EV…

Its deff an interesting and complex game!

BTW TAG is a fairly well known expression for a good aggressive player! Many OMC players would probable call them a bingo player! lol

Obviously it depends, but since your high hand can never become worse like you low hand can (ie You have A,2 and a 2 hits the board) its probably smarter to play agressive with the Hi, plus you can drive the potential lows out of the pot if three lows arent on the board yet. You can win the whole pot with a high, you can only win half with the low, so risk reward I bet harder with the high.
