It's just bad play

Thanks Miri, that was exactly my point…the other solution is to make tables without preflop raisings…

@ZoranPetrov, I get the frustration at players who make “stupid” raises each hand. However, the best protection is to figure out an appropriate strategy to exploit that. If they’re going all-in preflop every hand with 50BB, wait until you have a hand at the top of your range, call them, and double up. No need to get snippy at them, just collect their chips. Alternatively, play mixed-limit games, which only allow pot-limit bets preflop, with no limits on later streets.

Keep in mind that raising a moderate amount preflop when you want to stay in a hand is a standard play. You don’t want to play small, multi-way pots. One good reason for that was recently explored on this thread. It’s good to raise it up preflop and knock out weak players and the blinds, or pick up value from those weak hands by getting them to overcommit their equity. Of course, raise size is important - you don’t want to bomb it with massive open sizes where you’ll only get called by better hands. Target a raise size where you’ll get only one, maybe two callers in a 6- or 9-handed game, and adjust open range accordingly, playing fewer hands with a larger raise size.

A convenient way to no longer “hear”–read, really–snippy comments is to mute that player at your table. Click his/her name, look in the box that opens for their “chat balloon,” (in lower left) and click an “x” into it. You will no longer see their chat as long as you’re both seated at that table, though others will still see it. Every player who doesn’t want to see it has to do that for themself.
Also, remember there are fixed limit games available for most games and stake levels. There’s no bingo at fixed limit, just nuisance raising (same principle, but very different effect). There’s a big difference between the two ways. No limit is closer to a boxing match, while fixed limit is more like chess.
A large part of the problem is that most of us grew up with fixed limit games and transitioned into no limit later because that’s what most RP players seem to enjoy. The curse goes with the territory.

Wannabecoder and Alan,
I think Zoran was not looking for advice about a smart strategy, which tourneys other than NL are the best to avoid such players, or how to mute them. He resented the fact he has been warned when he openly showed his „joy“ about the elimination of an annoying player.
I agree that to say sarcastically „bye, bye“ is not the best table etiquette, but isn’t to wilfully irritate the whole table with all-ins or big raises pre-flop every hand an even worse behaviour?
Players are absolutely free to do what they choose, of course, but I’d also like to be free to rejoice when such exasperating players are eliminated from a tourney. Without insulting them, obviously, as much as I’d like to.

Now I read this is forbidden. :frowning: And I wonder what we are actually allowed to say at a table. I now think that only by writing „nh“, „ty“, „yw“, „gg“ I’ll be safe from censure. And nobody but me will know when I meant it sarcastically.

WRT - snippiness

I’m forgiving when a player uses the clock to make a decision (or because their spouse or child asked a question or it’s time to stir the soup or whatever… life happens) but often another player will type ‘ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ’ in the chat. I honestly don’t care even if someone is abusing the clock, it’s, what, 10 seconds? If you can’t be patient for ten seconds, what are you, like 10 yrs old?

I think that’s rude, so I sometimes respond to the zzzz’s with “Oh are you tired? If you’re falling asleep maybe you should take a nap.”

@DaffodilFine everybody is forgiving when it comes to the occasional slow play due to a spouse asking questions or stirring soups.

It’s the constant, very annoying abuse of the time clock, used by some players in the sole purpose to irritate others, that becomes a problem. Even Replay Community Playbook and Site Rules mention it and describe it as “unpleasant and painfully boring for all players”.

I’m sorry but in these cases it’s no longer a matter of ten seconds, but a huge accumulation of tens of seconds, which quite frankly kills the game.

ZZZZZZZZZ’s can be equally irritating, especially if the player who’s using up the clock is unintentionally doing it, and doing it as an exception. But sometimes the ZZZZZZZ’s are justified, especially when the slow players are doing it on purpose just to irritate others.

As a PRep I wouldn’t do this but I saw an alternative to zzzzz a while back that cracked me up:

“here’s an idea…how about looking at your cards before it’s your turn”

I think the ZZZZZZZs are immature and childish needling. A grownup would ask, “Is there a issue with your connection or something distracting you? Maybe time to relog?”

Ten seconds, to me, even when added up over the course of round is not a long time but maybe I’m ununually patient.

I agree with you regarding the ZZZZZZZs. They’re kinda childish. And other expressions are far better.

Regarding the ten seconds adding up, I wish everyone else was as patient as you (including me)

Do you mean this one? :innocent:

I started to use “have a nice day”, so RP can’t warn me again…lol

Good idea! Today, I used “thanks for playing” as well. Could be better than bye bye?

Great idea! Especially if the departee has left a bunch of chips behind, because then you really are grateful.

ZZZZZZZs are considered “Inappropriate Chat” and reportable. Running out the clock every hand/street is also inappropriate and reportable. Report abuse when you encounter it.
