Yeah Almost live is extremely good, hard to play. We were like 2 titans beating each other 2,3,4 times, until I finally took him out. I bluffed him 2,3 times, and he caught 1 of my bluffs, and we had 1,2,3 hands where if I had mid pair, he had top pair, and if I had top pair, he had 2 pair, and if I had 2 pair, he had a set, if I had a set he had a 3 card straight, etc. How I didnt bust, get busted by him, I dont know. Was nice to semi outplay him, get the better of him, finally knock him out, etc. Almost live is a player I hope to avoid, lol, unless I have to play him, go thru him, etc, lol.
LOL I was just telling @daslda about @AlmostLive and I described him almost exactly the same way
He will catch you bluffing, and when you try to get him he always seems to have something better! Very tough dude.
Was down below 900M again a week ago - truly awful luck in ring, and a mediocre run of tournament play.
Refocused hard and got back in the saddle this week - finished the weekend with 2nd place in the 5M Widowâs Bite for an almost 40M score. Switched to O8 ring where less patience/long sessions required to book a win, and cashed a few quick double ups.
Back to 980M, from here we only go up!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
How to get 1 billion chips? If you can go from thisâŚ
âŚthen anything is possible!
Big shout-out to @Lelaina for always, no matter what, being there to support me and tell me I can really do itâeven (especially?) when the dealer disagrees. We did it SQUAD!
Thanks also to @lihiue for consistently excellent feedback on strategy, @Excaliburns for his valuable wisdom and dare I say spiritual guidance, @_Rain for helping me get there in style with this classy avatar (also Lelaina for the version which is still my favorite thing ever), and the whole Nordic Warriors crew for keeping my game sharp with the BEST quality tournament play on Replay week after week.
I started this journey with my first win in a 5M buy-in tournament, so it feels pretty nice to end it the same way <3
We did it!
And I am so, so, so proud!
I told you already: that I was able to go all that way together with you has been awesome!
You deserve every single million. I am SO happy for you!
You did it!
Kirk - Have you ever won against this computer Spock?
Spock - The best I have ever done was a draw, Captain.
KIrk - It has been beaten before. You are aware of this fact?
Spock - Yes, I am quite aware.
Kirk - Yeoman Younguru beat the computer four times in a row.
How would you explain his success.
Spock - Captain, it is common knowledge Dr. McCoy implanted a chip in his brain years ago.
Kirk - Ah yes, the chip that resembled a poker chip from the 20 TH Century.
Spock - Yes, an old design but effective in many ways!
Congratulations Luke. What took you so long? (JK)
Congrats Luke.
@_Rain tyvm Michael!
Next goal: Top 50 rank
I am going to play a lot of nosebleed Ring this month and see what is realistic for growth
Congradulations! Mission Accomplished!
HMMMM, only 39, should be out having fun with the ladies and enjoying life a tad more:)
There is something I donât understand, you say you won 100M at the widowâs bite but itâs a 5M tournament.
How could you participate in a 5M tournament if you started with 300k?
Getting several millions by playing only tournaments requires a lot of good results, if you got them it means you played a large portion of your BR on a single tournament and you won it.
Your journey is inspiring but I have the impression that you were very lucky at the beginning because if you hadnât won the widowâs bite all this would never have been possible.
Wardrome, I have gone from 20k to 35 million in 7 months playing only tournaments, without buying chips, with good bankroll Management. And I have had my fair share of semi epic bad beat bad runs where I have lost about 23 to 33 to 43 buy ins almost in row due to bad beats, coolers, trainwrecks, etc, so its not just only good luck, but skill as well.
I tell you this, because Younguru probably did the same as me, started with about, between about 30k to 300k, and grinded that up to about 25 mil to 50 mil to 75 mil, and then with bad bankroll management, and only about 15, 5 mil buy ins to the widows bite 5 mil tourney, then cashed, won it, and got 100 million, etc.
Yes Younguru and me have gotten lucky, but without the skill component and playing good poker, me and him, probably wouldnât have had the good results we have had.
The Widows Mite is 5 mil buy in, 100 mil prize pool, so Younguru didnt have to get 100 million to play it, and easily get 5 mil + to easily play it.
I understand but it took you seven months to get to 35M not one month.
To play a 5M tourney safely you need at least 100-150M in your bankroll. If you do it with less I donât call that good bankroll management.
Donât get me wrong, Iâm not questioning Younguruâs skill but Iâm saying that to have such a start you ALSO need a lot of luck, and itâs this start that allowed him to be much more comfortable afterwards.
@Wardome so I checked my records, actually I misspoke: in February I did not win Widowâs; I got 3rd place for about 26M.I think I actually won the tournament in March. So itâs even worse than I stated
I definitely took my shots at several points on the road to 1B, but for the most part my BRM was quite conservative. I think I was just happy accepting more ROR in the early stages. The further along I got, the less of my BR I was willing to play for at one time, as the psychological impact of a setback became more of a deterrent (around 300M I played some of the Top 20 ranked players in ring, headsup, lost about 100M in a matter of hours. Thatâs a month of full-time tournament work⌠I didnât play those stakes again for weeks.)
Even at the 1M MTT stake level, the average replay reg is just not very skilled at poker. Specifically, the prevailing âplayer typeâ is Weak-Tight-Passive⌠super easy to exploit with a lot of low risk-high reward plays. So if you know your fundamentals of modern poker theory, you donât need to be so worried about bankroll. It should be very difficult to go broke.
Ha friend-do not EVER question Younguruâs poker skills, he is a genius:).
dont understand what mean weak in poker in this context
Itâs an admittedly vague term. I mean âweakâ to include any of the following:
-plays âscared money,â more concerned with avoiding loss than maximizing profit
-doesnât understand the relationship between bet size, board texture, and hand strength; âinelasticâ in certain spots
-overfolding in general; playing âfit or foldâ post flop
-overplaying non-nutted hands
-chasing with insufficient pot odds
etc.
