Grey tactic

I’d be happy to do other threads on whatever topics people are interested in. Keep in mind that I am not an expert in most of these concepts. People like JoeDirk and unranked and Idi0tPlaYer are far more advanced than I am in these things. I’m a relatively old dog learning new tricks compared to the people who learned the game with these concepts as foundations. However, If I can help people with whatever knowledge I have, I’m happy to. I’m sure I would learn quite a bit from the other people posting as well.

Since its late, I’m not going to start tonight. Give me a chance to think about it, and you the chance to change your mind about requesting that I actually post more here

Thank you, Warlock. I was thinking that you overlooked the type of player one meets on this site. However, you have covered that exigency, albeit without detail.
I worked through your response and understand your point.
It is certainly something to consider.

“No matter what you think, other than paying the blinds… you don’t have to play any hands…
Get over it, quit be’n a whimp about it… just as someone can waste a 20 sec timer everytime its thier turn, so can someone fold every hand if they so choose.”

.

Pretty well said there, Sarah…

.

The goals should be 1) Make the money, and 2) Win as often as possible… Other than
that I recommend “Don’t get emotionally involved”… And, being ‘concerned’ about a
player ‘sitting out’ for an extended period ain’t one of them…

.

“Live to fold again” is somebody’s motto, not mine, but… It’s valid…

.

LOL…

Pretty much all of the strategy / theory I write about are abstractions, with the intent of explaining a general concept. Application of these concepts to specific situations isn’t the intent, unless a specific situation was being addressed. I am sorry if you or anyone else has taken these generalizations and put them to use here without adjusting them to the player types because that would be disaster. In the future I will try to state whether I am speaking generally or specifically to avoid as much confusion as possible.

You tell em Sarah!

Sitting out or killing the clock are just valid strategies players use. Some go grey when they figure their stack is sufficient to go ITM. And let us not forget that sometimes real life intrudes on our game and we must leave. I don’t care why a player goes grey, I’m just hoping to catch as many chips as the splasher puts in the pot.

For anyone who plays real-money live tables, it’s standard practice… You can leave your chips at the table any time, and for as long as you want. The dealer will take your antes and blinds until you come back, or until nothing is left.

For myself, I don’t mind. Less active players at the table increases my odds of doing well in the blinds! I play different against 5 players as I would against 9.

So, I agree! No top 50% rule, no level-3 rule, and no 50% participation rule should be considered.

Good luck at the tables!

A player pays his or her chips to be at the table and if they set out many hands that’s their choice. I see it as one less person with cards that can beat me in a hand. If you invoke a rule to kick them out they will find a way to play the minimum anyway. Leave it alone.

Most of the time players being grey is not a concern to me ;however, when playing Royal it can make a big difference if you are in a MTT and 3 of the 6 players are grey as it was today when I played. It not only has a big effect on trying to determine what other players have in their hand but it reduces your opportunity to win chips to such a degree that you fall behind in chips compared to the board of players. Since this was a freeroll , I am not sure why these grey players would be allowed to remain part of the tournament for 19minutes as they were today.
