“For Auld Lang Syne” --The poem’s Scots title may be translated into standard English as “old long since” or, less literally, “long long ago”, “days gone by”, or “old times”.
Who and/or what is called to mind from “long long ago” as we start this new year? For me: Best friend Debbie: I met her at age 2. She died young (39) of colon cancer. A toast to her!
So many for me, but if we’re going for “long, long ago” it would be my mom, who was hit by a drunk driver on Christmas eve, as we walked home from church. I was 7, she was only 20, and then our only child, Daisy, who was killed at fourteen, as she left the shelter she was volunteering at that evening. Of course, I’ll always include my husband,
my soulmate, the man I fell in love with and married at 15. (he was 24). We had an amazing 46 years together before he was taken from me. A toast to them all!!!
