my mom would cook some things, like okra, more than necessary; but she/we all came to realize it wasn’t necessary. perhaps the pace of life in the old days contributed to long cooking times. my great aunt would start cooking supper shortly after lunch (or dunna, as it was called in the south). she may’ve been bored…didn’t have online poker, ticasstok, etc
