Another excellent and wild league game!! Sixty-six players joined the fray last night in an “up and down” skirmish that left the league standings closer than they’ve been since week 1 !

The Renegades were no longer going to let the poker gods toy with them. 18 longboats set sail determined to be victorious regardless of favor from the higher poker deities. And that resolve paid off with 7 in the points and 4 (cr, won, mika, neb) at the final table. CR, being cheered on with “Rake those chips!”, took the top spot for the game, with mika scoring the highest finish as a Renegade! This effort pulled the Rens within 1 pt of sole possesion of 1st in the league. Well done!

The Pirates have been reborn in the last few games, landing in the 1st or 2nd spots for the game. Tonight was no different, having regained their “rumly” form! Lead by the “pokerslayer” himself, mattiebumpo, the Pirates placed 6 in the points, with 3 (mb, Rain and nem) at the final table. A very nice effort to regain 3rd place in the league.

The Outlaws rode in light once again, with 13 mounts to place 3 in the points and 1 (tb) at the final table. A fine effort, as they cling to a 1/2 pt lead in the standings. But their “short-horsery” is making the league wonder if they can hang on. Still the leaders, so that is a good thing.

Nineteen Cons showed up tonight, but in spite of this and a fine effort to get 2 players in the points with 1 (mahv) in the finals, they struggled to get things going. Their biggest trick of the night was to make themselves disappear :frowning: . A free mystic consultation has been scheduled for all of them at Madame Zolton’s, psychic and huckster extraordinaire. Hopefully, this will prove to be energizing and have the Cons back in contention.

We’re just past the halfway point of the season with 7 games left, and there are many questions. Will the Outlaws stop horsing around? Can the Renegades continue to ax and club their way to the top, based on numbers and brute strength? Can the Pirates make it a lucky/unlucky 13 consecutive months as Champs? Can the Cons pull many rabbits out of many hats? Much will be decided by who can rally the most teammates to the most games! See you tonight!

An excellent league game!! A whopping 73 in attendance, which may be a high for the year, and all fighting like crazy for the top spot.

With the Outlaws holding only a 1/2 point lead going into the game, the rest of the league saw an opportunity to throw a rope over a tree branch and “stretch some necks” as they say. Instead, the Outlaws stretched their lead by a huge 4 points. With only 13 mounts and riders, the Outlaws managed 7 in the points, with 4 (mw, sara, dj and stoga) at the final table! An excellent effort! (Since the success with the “short horsery” continues, I’ve decided to investigate. More on that later.)

The Pirates continue their one/two punch strategy (if they can’t get first, they take 2nd) and slowly climb from the depths of a would-be watery grave. With 4 players in the points and 3 of those (todd, nem and rain) at the final table, the Pirates had another very nice game. And with a month high 19 ships, the Pirates and Captain Des have made it clear they are sailing light on rum and heavy on cannon!

The counseling session with Madame Zolton has paid some dividends for the Cons. 20 of the flim-flammery fold showed up for the game, with 5 in the points and 2 (mahv and shoe) at the final table. A solid effort that nearly outdistanced the Pirates for 2nd. Well done!

The Renegades launched an impressive 20 longboats and 1 longsub (subsailor!) but struggled with navigation throughout the fight. The Rens still managed a good effort, with 2 Rens (Maxy and sub) scoring points, but none at the final table.
Look for the Rens to sail a truer course in tonight’s game.

An excellent game, and with the league standings very close, teams are wishing they had a few more players in those earlier games, except the Outlaws* of course. Going forward, look for each team’s roster to increase in size, except the Outlaws* of course. See you tonight!

*(As self-appointed IMLS (Inspector of Mysterious League Statistics) I spent a few seconds in deep thought trying to understand the Outlaws success in spite of the “short horsery”. And then, it dawned on me. The answer was right there in front of me all along: Shetland ponies!! Yes, the Outlaws have avoided capture by riding around on these little guys. With the shorter profile and the fewer numbers, they were able to escape detection. You don’t really notice them and then suddenly !bang! they are in the points! Now that the secret is out and the rest of the league is alerted, will the Outlaws’ success continue? We shall see…)

Another excellent league game!! 71 in attendance, and this game had highs, lows and even a photo finish! Well done, DW League!

As the Renegades carried their champion, the Great Nebulous, off the field on their shoulders to the chants of “Neb! Neb! Neb!”, they all felt a great pride in a game well played. Nineteen longboats and one longsub (subsailor!) came determined to improve on their previous game’s performance, and they did just that! Nine in the points, with 3 at the final table (neb, won and cr) and a finish that was Hall of Fame. Surrounded by 4 Pirates at the final table, Neb fired up the bulldozer and went to work. When the dust cleared, only Nola was able to stop him, but 2nd place points were just enough to win the game for the night! Well done Neb and Renegades!

The Pirates continued with their strategy of finishing either 1st or 2nd to gain ground on the leaders. Placing 4 at the final table (Nola, str8, todd and ad) with 5 total in the points and Nola as the champ!, was enough to secure 2nd and nearly edge the Rens for first! Very well done! The Pirates are benefitting from a reduced rum diet and also seem to be stronger, more well-nourished. Hmmm …

Many complaints were filed by the Outlaws with the League Commissioner Sharon, as their “short-horse” strategy was revealed by the League IMLS. However, in spite of the rest of the league being alerted/ready, the Outlaws still managed 4 in the points, with 2 (julie and nica) at the final table. A very fine effort, allowing the Outlaws to still hold a 1.5 pt lead at the top of the standings! Nevertheless, the Outlaws will probably need to change their strategy to hold onto 1st place. (In seemingly unrelated news, the league office has received inquiries from Budweiser with regard to some missing Clydesdales.)

The Cons came into tonight with 18 magicians all in full illusion mode! However, when they attempted their “bread and butter” trick of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, they found all the rabbits were gone! (At this moment, they recalled the aroma of rabbit stew wafting from the harbor where the Pirate ships lay anchored. (Oh, Pirates! How could you?)).

Between the complaints from Outlaws, emails from Budweiser and the absence of rabbits, it was too much of a distraction/obstacle for the Cons to overcome. Look for the Cons to restock their rabbit supply and be ready to go tonight!

When Clydesdales and rabbits go missing, you know the competition has reached a fevered pitch! With 5 games to go, now more than ever, if you want to have a shot at winning, teams really need to show up! Good luck all! See you tonight!

Another excellent league game! 67 in attendance and a wild, although lopsided, game night!

“Go big or go home!”, yelled the Outlaws, as they thundered in on 14 Clydesdales (origins unknown). They galloped their way through the field and made an easy steal of 1st place. Fourteen riders total (could be a year high), with 6 in the points, all (gf, gpj, mg3, drj, alex and nica) at the final table!! A whopping 96 player points, and league lead extension to nearly 6 points! A very fine outing! This flexible strategy of going with Shetland ponies, Clydesdales or any horse size in between could prove too confusing for the rest of the league!

“Remember the rabbits!” was the battle cry of the Cons, as they forcefully flimmed and flammed their way to 2nd place! Still distraught over their “contribution” to the Pirates “rabbit and rum stew”, the Cons came into the night with a game high 20 illusionists. The number paid off as they posted 6 in the points, with 2 (Z and rdl) at the final table! A very fine effort, keeping their 1st place hopes alive!

“Too much stew!” was the Pirates refrain, as a monthly low of 14 ships sailed into the fray (proving the old Pirate proverb true that "if you’re bloatin’ you’re not floatin’ "). The Pirates were still well represented, with 3 in the points, and 1 (rockit) at the final table! A very fine performance for 3rd place.

“Where the heck are we?” was heard all through the night, as the Renegades tried desperately to direct their way through the battle. A good sized fleet of 19 set sail, but still the “feast or famine” results continue to confound. Tonight, the cupboard was bare, and the Rens finished with 3 in the points, but none at the final table. A fine job by jdw, who was the “bank” for the renegades, passing many chips. Well done!

With 4 games left, it appears the Outlaws are on the verge of pulling away. Will the Cons continue to show up in big numbers? Will the Pirates ease off on the leftovers and return to the size fleet they are known for? Will the Rens embrace the “feast” and discard the “famine”? Answers to all these questions will be found in the next few days.

The Outlaws have thrown down the gauntlet! “Go big or Go home!”. Which will it be DW League? See you Sunday!

Another excellent league game, with a year high of 75 players! A fantastic turn-out as team play begins to really heat up!

Shocked over last game’s low turnout, Pirate Capt. Des passed the order to her crew: “No stew for you!”. The reduced bloating among the Pirates resulted in a month high 20 ships sailing into the game. And a spectacular result as 7 Pirates landed in the points, with 4 (rain, nem, des and denali) at the final table! Well done, Pirates! (And a big welcome to DW League new player rgcrest!)

The Outlaws decided to leave as little to chance as they could in spite of the success of mixing various sized horses. A month high 19 rode into the game tonight, showing they are determined to take the championship for the month! A very hard fought game, as they just managed to edge the Cons for 2nd place! All 4 players (mimi, panther,Alex and mw) that made it into the points also made the final round! A very fine effort, which extended their lead over the 2nd place Rens by another 2 points.

The Cons, still not having shaken off the loss of their rabbits, arrived with a game low 16, but had a very impressive start! They made the most of the players they had, and “magicianized” their way into 3rd place. 6 players in the points, with 1 (Mahv) making the final table. Mahv went into “steam rollin’” mode and flattened the competition in the final rounds to take the top spot! Well done Cons!

In the Rens “feast or famine” world, they have once again chosen famine. An impressive 20 boats set sail, but only 1 made it to the points and none at the final table. A shoutout to MC for keeping the Rens from being handed the dreaded goose egg. Well done! The Rens have stolen the Pirates “rabbit and rum stew” recipe to help end the famine. Will this “beef them up” in time for the next game? We shall see.

Three games left, and the Outlaws have extended their lead tonight (as mentioned above). The Pirates, similar to the Dewey Cox Story, are sailing hard, and are now within 2 points of taking 2nd place. This is the big part of the league story, but the Cons and Rens can still write the final chapter! See you all tomorrow night!

Another excellent league game! 74 in attendance, including a few players we’ve not seen in a while, a certain sign that the competition is getting fierce.

Once again, the Outlaws deploy their “short-horsery” strategy, and once again they mosey into the top spot. All 4 players (frank, drj, mg3 and gpj) in the points round make the final table, with frank coming back from 3rd place to take the #1 spot for the game! Well done, Outlaws!

The Pirates, rankled over their state of “stewless-ness”, sailed in with a year high 22 ships!! With 5 players in the points and 3 (aw, oo and mb) at the final table, they captured 2nd place for the game and pulled within 1/2 point of the Rens in the league standings! A very nice game by the Pirates, showing they are not giving up, and why they have been champs for 12 consecutive months.

The Renegades are moving away from famine and more into feast mode. With Suit going feast mode/beast mode at the final table, he captured 2nd place for the game. That effort along with 3 other Rens making points table, was enough to edge the Cons for 3rd place for the game. Very well done!

The Cons had a very good turnout, managing to razzle and dazzle their way to 5 players in the points, and 1 (cg) at the final table. A difficult night as far as standings as all teams played very well, but an excellent effort nonetheless!

Two games left and it seems the Outlaws are closing the deal. But wait!! The standings are still close enough that very wild games can ensue. Look for two very hard fought battles in the last days of the month! See you Wednesday!
