When analyzing suckout hands take care not to confuse the specific hand with the spot.
Someone will say, “You should call/bet/raise (whatever) here,” and Hero will say, “But he rivered trips 3s, and I would have lost no matter what, so I should have folded.”
Yes, on that particular hand, there was nothing that you could have done to win, but in that SPOT, 9 times out of 10 he’s not going to buttluck trips 3s on the river so you should call/raise/jam etc.
The hands that we are destined to lose, we will lose (just as the hands that we are destined to win, we will win). Nothing will change that, but those hands are only a small percentage of the hands that we will play. Furthermore, you will never play that HAND again, but you WILL see that SPOT many many many more times.
When we analyze the doomed hand, we are not trying to figure out how we could have won it, we are learning how to be more profitable in that spot going forward.
Just some thoughts.
