When I first returned to Replay a few months ago, I engaged in debate with Younguru and Lihiue among others on whether Replay poker chips had any tangible value. They seemed to think so. I did not.
Since then, I’ve noticed Leilani on my table several times. She is designated as a ‘PlayerRep.’ I’ve mused about what that might be, not being aware of any collective bargaining in the poker world.
Today, after crossing the 40M plateau, I finally went looking through the forum’s search engine to assuage my curiosity. Best I found was that they are some sort of volunteer cadre that possibly helps players having non-strategic difficulties navigating the tables.
In the process of this search, I came across an old post (2021) from someone named Shumpire, who wanted to know how everyone managed to spend so much time on the site. Was there a monetary benefit, he wanted to know, or were we just all financially secure? He indicated that if there were no revenue streams, he would have to find a job.
The gears in my noggin kicked in and I went to the ‘Get Chips’ page to calculate that my bankroll was worth slightly less than $300 retail. So, apparently Younguru and Lihiue were correct about play chips having tangible value, although I doubt the moderators would countenance any players starting up a black market, as it were.
