Can't Win on a Bluff?

Consider this: You can’t win a tournament on a bluff-out.

A “bluff” for this discussion means a big bet you make with a weak hand, hoping your opponent chooses not to call. If your opponent indeed folds, you have achieved a “bluff-out.”

But you CAN’T win the final hand of a tournament with that move. I just think this is an interesting bit of pokeriana that answers the misperception some people have that poker is ALL about bluffing. Discuss.

I’ve never heard of anyone saying that poker is all about bluffing. I have heard a couple of times people say that it’s all about the betting. Obviously it’s not all about the betting. One does need to know card odds, but card odds mean nothing without knowing how to bet those odds, according to position, number of callers, pot size, stack sizes, action to you, and player tendencies/leaks. It’s all integrated. Each of these factors affects all of the others.

True you cannot win the final hand of a tournament with a bluff, but by that stage the game is very different anyways. It’s all stealing and trapping.

" all about bluffing" lmao- Poker is about patience, reading players and a little luck…With 2 ppl. left it is usually a lot of luck as you both obliviously played good and with the blinds so high you need some luck.
