I never played poker before, and have only been playing here for 3 days now, and while the Replay site is mostly OK, I find that, for the level of knowledge and experience I have, even the normal speed tables are way too fast. What would be good, I think, for total newbies like myself, would be a 1 minute shot clock, with 30 seconds at end of play to give enough time to truly understand how the hand was finally settled, including displaying all hands in play at the end, including your own even if you folded early, so you can think for a minute and understand what happened in the hand.
This sort of hand holding would only be required for a short time, until a certain level expertise had been gained and one could move on to the faster tables.
For someone with my level of experience, playing poker on Replay right now is more like gambling, taking a shot in the dark with no strategy or purpose, rather then the strategic game poker can be, i.e. not really enjoyable.
Thatâs why itâs called replay poker. You can replay your hands and learn from them.
Nope - that is too slow and painful - the best learning is on the spot, when things are still fresh in your mind - going back through games after youâve played 50+ in a row is not the ideal way to learn.
Thatâs the way itâs been since the birth of Replay Poker in 2005, a winning formula. If you canât think fast try the Freerolls for new players. You can learn and it costs you nothing.
Everyone plays on the same time clock
Good luck with your game.
Uhh, youâre just not getting it. Iâm NOT looking for more of the same, Iâm NOT looking for what Replay already provides, including what Freerolls would provide. Iâm looking for a very different learning experience.
The best analogue I can think of is what Gus Hansen did when he prepared to write âEvery Hand Revealedâ. He took a little tape recorder to a major tournament and recorded the play, his thinking and his impressions of opponents in almost real time - he would step away from the table after each hand to record. He didnât do this post game, but as close to the event as possible to capture the most information - nobody could possibly remember all their thinking at some later post match time.
This is what my proposal re the ultra-slow beginnerâs table would provide - a chance, while things are still fresh in oneâs mind, to reflect and think about the hand just played, perhaps even to make small notes or maybe even record impressions a la Hansen, or maybe even just to flag a hand as something to review later using Replay, with notes as to what to look for in the review. There is just no time to do any of that when playing with a normal shot timer.
Poker fpr most beginners IS gambling and the only way to learn this demanding game is through, study, observation and experience. There are a few excellent poker bloggers on YouTube. Jonathan little is my favorite. I have met many awesome people at the poker table(live games). I hope you continue your journey and someday go to the casino and play $1 $2 cash games and meet some smart and wonderful people, good luck to you!
So, youâre proposing that everyone at the tables sit around while you study your hands live, pretty selfish. Perhaps you should use a tape recorder as Gus Hansen did.
For an absolute beginner I recommend Blackrain79.
Go to freerolls. There is a table for beginners and wonât cost you any chips on any freeroll
Hi @duduloco , Welcome to Replay Poker and the Forum where you can learn, share ideas, on many Great Topics. We all started here at Replay as beginners even if had some poker experience before. As everyone has mentioned, Play the new player freerolls and every freeroll you can at any clock speed to learn the game and strategyâs. Remember all of your chips are free unless purchased, therefore, you have nothing to loose and only knowledge plus experience to gain. If you are set on the clock of your choice, you may be able to set up a private table with a timer of your choice with any new friends you have. Not absolutely sure of that but worth looking at. GL at the tables and always have fun!
No offense, but you clearly did not read what I proposed. If you were to play an ultra-slow beginnerâs table, OF COURSE you would be waiting, max one minute, for each and every player in turn. That is the whole point of the table - to allow every beginning player time to analyze. It is NOT intended at all for experienced players who would clearly go full tilt playing so slow.
You can review anyoneâs last 200 hand history not just yours by searching anyone and you will be taken to their profile and just click âView Latest Handsâ. Attempt to figure out why players raise, call, go all in etc., at the different âStreetsâ. Would you do the same as they have?
Also, you can observe any ring, SnG or Tourney game and do the same, trying to figure out why they are doing what they are doing. I think this a better way to âLearnâ how to play poker since you have limited experience.
I hope this helps.
Replaying 1 out of 20 or so hands is too painful?
So you want to make it more painful for everyone else?
I guarantee these tables would be mostly empty! Super Slow sounds super painful.
Most in low stakes on RP are just gambling with their eyes closes. Maybe most in med stakes too! Any ABC poker strategy will win.
A lot of players think experience & playing hands for years makes them great players. You will very slowly learn & improve using this âlack of strategyâ playing on RP. Go online and watch some FREE YouTube vids and go online and read some basic info on poker strategy DAILY and you will be many times better than most players in low stakes on RP, after a few weeks.
Beginners tables? I like the idea of some open handed Private Tables - where friends can all play with cards showing to teach and learn the game.
I remember reading poker tutorials on the Replay Blog. Good way to start besides the new player Freerolls.
There is a thread here The Links Library . It has all kinds of stuff for every level of player from complete nubie to seasoned pro. Go have a poke around in there and you will find all kinds of beneficial stuff.
You do realize that you can sit out for a short period after each hand and analyze them without stopping the flow of the game youâre in, donât you?
i started with a game for âkidsâ: gouvernor of poker, i believe this is the name of the game: you play vs. a computer, but you can learn the basicsâŚwhen learned, take on the real thingâŚgl
I really think watching how more experienced players play is the easiest way to quickly learn to play poker. There are a lot of âgood playersâ on here and some are really smooth.
lmao:) the clock is slow here, it is a free fun site, take notes on ppl., play and u will get better as u play more.
Thatâs a great response. I forgot all about that
