Are you losing with AK a lot?

Try letting go of this one,lol

I’m fairly certain I’ve lost more with ak than any other hand, probably should learn to auto fold that one. Today, I hit A AND K and still got smoked. Least it wasn’t a bad beat, my two outer would have been one, lol

I often have no luck with pocket AKs; often my opponent has A2, A3, A4, etc. in his pocket. and he have a pair

AK is a strong hand but mathematically it has a 30% chance of losing against 109 for example, or a flip vs QQ, everything depends on the situation of the tournament, your bankroll, how many short-stacked players there are etc. All this information helps to decide whether to go all-in on that hand or fold.

yeah, and AA has a 20% chance of losing against T9 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sometimes I would suggest not going all in preflop with AK suited or other valuable starting hands. Especially when there are 5 or more players at the table. There are four of every card. Someone with a 7/10 is just as likely to hit a pair on the flop as AK. Is it really worth risking your entire stack, just for one hand? Sitting out, when the odds are not stacked in your favor is a wise choice.

I use 2 loose with Ak all the time …I never loose with AK anymore because…I muck AK.

@MSD0S if you have 100bb or less, and there has yet to be a preflop 4bet, it’s hard for it to be a big mistake to shove with AK.

We remove many combinations of AA and KK from our opponents’ range by having an A and K in our hand. These are the only 2 hands against which AK is significantly behind. Against 22-QQ it’s a coinflip, and we’re favored against all other hands.

Yes, T7 is as likely to hit as AK, but the same is (roughly) true of 72 or 32 (the worst starting hands possible). Further, notably, when both hands hit, AK is crushing. You may lose fewer pots if you play AK conservatively, but you’ll also win fewer big pots. So the missed losses are compensated for, to our disadvantage, by the missed wins.

Good time of day.
I’m reading your article and I realize that no matter how experienced the player is, there are pocket cards that will make us make mistakes over and over again. I’ve seen so many All-in’s from players with AK. What can we say about 4-bet? :grinning:
So why do people overestimate this hand so much? Perhaps because it can leave so many hands behind, especially if they are one-size-fits-all AK. But we persist in forgetting: how many hands will be ahead. In fact, no pocket hand will make you a 100% winner until you open at least a flop. We need to learn the discipline to make the right bets, and your article will surely help many in this.

Personally, my EV with AK is beetween my QQ EV and JJ EV

The game is a con … Ludicrous hands and algorithm that is biased as hell. It’s a joke and anyone thinking they win here they can win anywhere is really in for some rough times.

I don’t know what you’re talking about!!! Ace King off suit or ace King suited is an immediate three bet raise for me. I raise sometimes to 10 to 15 big blinds. If I know it’s gonna be a big multiway pot just to get things juicy…. and to get the action going. You have to do something to make the chips happen.

nice info to know… may i add that, with the lesser ppl in the pot, the big slick is a good hand to 4 bet. if u are now heads up with an opponent, call and check raise the flop(just like facing 3 bets) position is always a huge advantage, and calling with big slick in this situation on the flop just like peeling to steal on later street(especially on the button) if u get called out of position when you check raise, make sure to check fold from then on with your big slick if ur check raise is called on the flop, because you will be sweating bullets if ur called LOL
