Alternative poker formats

What alternative poker formats would you like to see offered? Teeber51 asked me this morning if we had considered adding an option to straddle. With everyone so focused on getting 7-Stud up and running, I don’t know if anyone gave it any thought at all. Mostly, what has come in the past has been the basics–Hold’em, Omaha and Omaha High-Low, and RP’s own Royal.

In practice, the possibilities are almost endless: shortened decks (strip out some of the ranks), wild cards, different betting structures, draw–or even multi-draw–poker, different numbers of community cards or requiring those cards to be used in different ways (perhaps a five card board with the left two cards having to be used for a low, the right two for high, and the center card either way), the mind boggles at the permutations.

What would you like to see and play? Keep in mind we ought to be looking for something that emphasizes skill, not sheer chance. We’re poker players. The lottery is for gamblers.

I would like to see more deep stack formats with longer blind levels.

What do you call a gambler who plays the lottery?

A really bad gambler.

I would love to see progressive bounty tournaments (PKO). In the bounty tournaments provided right now, bounties matter in the beginning, but not later in the tournament since the pay jumps are bigger than bounties, in a PKO, the bounty price goes up as the tournament goes on which keeps them important.

You literally just named the two ideas I want to see the most on replay, and yes I would love tournaments with slower rising blinds for less variance, I’m tired of playing final tables with 8 blinds.

Wish we could make a deal at the final table of an MTT.

I’ve seen HORSE played live but never online. That may be an monumental task to pull off.

Mixed game tourneys sounds nice. When I was younger and played with the family on weekends the game changed with the dealer. I think that was before TH? and everyone had their favorite game - 3, 5, 7 card stud, 2, 3, 4 card draw once or twice. 2 down four up low card in the hole wild. one eyed jacks, king with the axe. Pregnant threes. deuces wild, etc.
