Why is this desert image so popular?

Why do I see so many people on this site (and others) using this exact image as their avatar?

Does it have some kind of significance?

I think it does have a significance but, people would think I’m crazy if i posted what I think.

That’s Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in the Grand Canyon in Arizona .

It looks similar to Devils Tower near Moorcroft, Wyoming. This natural formation was featured in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

It’s not so much about what the landmark is, but about why the EXACT photo I posted of it is used so commonly.

It’s a good question. As a composition it is balanced and has great depth. One gets a sense of grandeur and mystery. A place to explore. A sacred place.

Perhaps it has some sacred spirituality from the Navajos imbedded in the picture. So majestic. Ask someone on here that uses it.

It’s funny because people’s responses are what made me even more curious.

In every case I’ve asked the question I was either ignored or given a nonsensical or evasive response.

Im pretty sure it was Windows wallpaper years and years ago. I think there was a turtle and some penguins too.
