Who is the #1 Poker Player in the World?

Let’s get Phil Hellmuth in here and experience the full spectrum of his highs and lows

All this next video needs is Tony G in the background saying, "Phil, you let him do that to you?

You call yourself a professional?

On your bike Phil"

This is a head scratcher just how bad this hand was played.

Grading poker players by money winnings alone has its merits, but it’s not the whole story.

Here’s why:

By Money Winnings:

  • Clear Metric: Easy to measure and compare.
  • High-Stakes Success: Reflects performance in big buy-in events.

  • Adaptability: Adjusting to different opponents and game types.
  1. Consistency:
  • Regular Cashes: Regularly finishing in the money in various events.
  • High Volume: Sustained performance over many tournaments.
  1. Reputation and Impact:
  • Influence: Contributions to the poker community.
  • Respect: Peer recognition and respect.
  1. Live vs. Online:
  • Versatility: Success in both live and online formats.
  • Adaptation: Adapting to different environments and formats.
  1. Legacy and Innovation:
  • Pioneering: Introducing new strategies or styles.
  • Legacy: Long-term impact on the game.

Negreanu makes the case for Phil Ivey

Who has beaten Phil Ivey?

I never argue with anyone who wants to call Phil Ivey the GOAT. He kind of checks all the boxes:
-high name recognition even outside of “poker nerd” circles
-huge cultural impact on the game
-has won at the highest level for years
-respected as both a cash and tournament player
-capable in multiple games/disciplines, not just NLHE
-consistent winner against both exploitative and GTO players
-aura for days
-not a scumbag

For comparison, Negreanu checks a lot of these boxes too, but as time passes I think it’s increasingly the case that a lot of top players would be happy to see Negreanu sit down next to them

Nobody is ever happy to see Phil Ivey at their table :joy:

Don’t miss out on this video.

From beginning to end is worth your time.

It provides a valuable perspective through a very experienced player.

You honestly think he is better than Stu Unger-----hmmmmmm lol:)

Look, Ungar was a genius and light years ahead of his time. But it’s kind of like the Bill Russell argument IMO. Hard to say he’s “the best ever” when the game was just so so so far behind where it is today.

I always think Ivey is a good pick because he’s been so good in so many areas for so long.

I think you mean the " Wilt Chamberlain" argument:)

I still think cards are played the same way now-----not like sports where players are bigger, faster n stronger now etc…

Wilt or Bill, take your pick!

And poker has changed DRAMATICALLY since Ungar’s day. Arguably even more than basketball has!

Wish at 39 (your age) i had your knowledge and wisdom on everything in life my friend:)…Guess playing most sports n still working out and playing poker n being a novice ( i am) i have much 2 learn at my old age:).

Guess you’re right, you seem to be an expert on everything my friend:)…

@bill8888 I’m really good at losing my phone! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
