If you regularly play a tournament that has an average of 40 players, then by rights you can only expect to win one tournament out of 40, assuming that everybody has equal skill, because they will always be luck factors.
To Increase your win rate you need to know when to hold them and when to fold them at every stage of the tournament.
Every time you get your whole stack in the middle against an opponent who has more chips than you, you are potentially facing elimination, so you need to make sure that you are not getting into that situation more often than absolutely necessary.
For example I see 1 or 2 players who I won’t name in the $1 million tournaments frequently shoving their whole stack on the flop when they have a flush draweearly in the tournament. Possible results would be: 1. Opponents fold. 2. Opponents call and you win the pot. 3. Opponent call and you lose the pot.
While you may double up early in the tournament by using this ploy, if you use it every time you have a flush draw, sooner or later you will lose a huge pot.
Once you get to the final stages of tournament, the dynamic changes, because nobody can really afford to pay to chase draws, or to make large bets on the flop without getting pot committed, so at this stage of the game hands like gutshot straight draws with overcards, which you would normally fold most of the time when the blinds are low and opponents are betting half the pot or the full pot with continuation bets or second pair, could become very valuable as they could eliminate an opponent and get you deeper into the money.
So to summarize. If you are playing in tournaments, study tournament tactics and your opponents so that you pick your moment and opponent very carefully if you want to get all in. If you get all in at the flop with top pair, and you get called by an opponent who has second pair, he is technically making a mistake, but even if you beat him, he will be replaced by somebody else who does exactly the same thing, and sooner or later one of them will get lucky, so generally you want to avoid that kind of situation, because the name of the game in tournaments is #1 Survive, then #2 Get lucky when you are down to the last few opponents!
On the other hand, if you are playing in ring games, you can get all in if the odds are in your favor, because if you lose you can easily rebuy, and in the long run it should go in your favor.

This might help.
Try not to get them all in unless you have a nut hand.
Once they are all in you just have to live with lady luck, and you also just have to live with frequent disappointments.

Exactly JanCee, I don’t care how could a player you are, hard to spin silk out of a steady stream of bad cards. I usually judge just how bad the cards are by how many winners I mucked. I have found that on the days I do not muck any winners, to be my worst days on here. I thing a lot of folks get frustrated when they get into a bad run of cards, and make bad decisions, particularly on a tough beat, seen it a number of times, person loses at showdown with what they thought was a winner…next hand…all in more times then not with a wtf set of cards are you doing. Anyhow continued luck

This is where skill comes in on making your opponents think you have a great hand. Keep tossing those bad cards you think you have but remember this; players are keeping notes on you. Deception is a key to perception.

Basically poker is a game of luck…hence bad players can win hands…at times repeatedly…I look at it somewhere around 90/10…luck /skill…but that 10% separates the players over time.

When I first started playing I noticed if I was caught in a small bluff or two early that could be very profitable later when I’m dealt or catch strong straights-flushes etc…

“Besser sie (die “schlechten” Spieler) haben hier “Glück”, wo es “nur” um virtuelle Chips geht, als bei einem echten Pokerevent, wo es um echtes Geld geht!”
Das “Glück” (Fortuna) ist sehr launisch und kommt und geht, wie es “ihr” beliebt, ist mal hier und mal dort und ist für uns Menschen unergründlich.

its play money poker…more starting hands. calls. shoves. NOTHING like poker, for real money. try to get it in good. the gooder, the better.
First, there are all kinds of players, make a note to avoid for whatever reason and find another table that you may enjoy.
Second, Luck does not respect statistics or odds so overly aggressive people that make bingo or craps type bets often win… it happens.
Third, it’s not real money so relax and find some players and a table where you can have fun.
