well. not sure if i should share this secret, but there exist a magical spell to stop talkers.
the magical spell is called STFU.
however you should be warned there exist very powerful talkers who are resistant to this spell. and the most powerful seasoned talkers have even build such a big resilience that the spell won’t work at all and get pissed off because to try to get a spell on them, resulting in even more talk.
so know this spell is powerful, but every magic has it’s limits.

I’ve always considered table talk a chance at a friendly exchange. I’ll usually start with a NH or VNH on a good play and see how the table reacts. If I get the Simon and Garfunkel, I’ll wait until I get to a different table.
My personal experience is the low stake rings are a great social while tourneys can be as cold as the winter winds.

Like CairnDestop I usually make a small comment and see if there’s any reaction, if none then that STFU spell gets me every time and I keep stumm
