Statistics page

Hello everyone,

I was wondering how to read the statistics page on replays homepage. I am likely going to sound very dumb to a mathematician but this is my question.

I want to know why flops seen + Hands folded does not equal total hands played?

I can see not seeing a flop and not folding because everyone has already folded.

That’s true, but the more common occurrence is folding after the flop. In fact if you made it to the flop every hand and then always folded, flops seen + Hands folded would equal 2x total hands played

So, you think there is double counting in the Statistics page which would make the total hands played meaningless?

No, total hands played is correct, it’s just that hands folded includes the hands folded pre-flop and the hands folded post flop. You can’t add the total number of hands folded to the total number of flops seen and get a meaningful number. On the other hand, if you subtract flops seen from total hands played, that will tell you how many times you folded pre-flop.

I agree with you on this part, which is what the OP was trying to do. I was trying to think of a reason they would be different.

Off the top of my head, I thought of Bingo players pre-flop where everyone folds to them.

They’re different because people can fold post flop.

It motivated me to create this though - spreadsheet which derives some standard poker measures from the values on the Replay Statistics page: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C_qqGTRWEBv7EJ59MjVuiBa0YJMQmLnp1jMm9WYKvSY/copy

I’ve put my stats in there, which are ok but not great, so I wouldn’t be too worried if anyones numbers are different to mine. Also, although WWSD, W$SD and WWSF are slightly more useful than what Replay gives us by default, they don’t necessarily mean much by themselves.

My guess is total hands is what dealt not what you played. You will probably fold more hands than played.

Oh, hands dealt = hands played. You still get to make a decision even if you open fold, so it counts as a hand played. Flops seen + Hands folded still wouldn’t be the same thing as total hands played even if you only counted hands where you put money into the pot though.

Sounds like you understand. I never will understand poker.

Are the derived poker stats that you mentioned in the Google doc. mainly from NL hold’em?
Should we be more concerned with win rate? if so what do you think would be a good total.
Last time I looked I was winning 6% of my tourneys and cashing in 23%.

Thank you for that Google doc. it really made sense of everything quickly. If I figure out how to give you an endorsement I will do so.

The derived stats aren’t really that important for analyzing your own play. They might highlight some leaks if your stats are way off, but typical values do depend a lot on the game type and how many opponents you are against on average. There’s better ways to analyze and find problems with your own play.
They’re standard stats just because they give you a good idea of your opponents style within a relatively small number of hands, so you’ll see them on sites that have HUD’s. There’s some good general guidance here: Went to Showdown (WTSD) and Won Money at Showdown (W$SD)

I don’t know what good win rates are for tournaments. I think 23% percent is fairly high and would indicate a pretty conservative approach, but you probably wouldn’t be winning 6% of tournaments if that was the case. Someone else will have to chime in on this one though.

Hi, I like stats and I like seeing others stats, so I’ll share mine. I started playing NLH-High MTT’s in December, I also recently starting playing NL-Omaha. I do not know what my in the money numbers are however, these are my final 3’s with my final tables in the money.

NLH-H (Dec-now)
641 games 26(1), 19(2), 12(3) and 152 final tables while in the money

NL-Omaha (Jan-now)
81 games 15(1), 2(2), 4(3)

I think I don’t win enough in NLH :frowning:

Must be playing 3-6 player sit-n-go with winning 6% of them:)

I have 9 wins in 145 tourneys not including freerolls.

I have played for over 15 years. Just trying to get back into it. I am not a natural at math though so I need to get back into it before I go back to the pay sites.

POS111 just said she won 15 out of 81 so how is my 6% so hard to believe. I play a fair amount of Omaha as well.

Math is good-but playing here does not help much in cash gsmes-instints and patience do.

There are a few different games here ( i think 6 ) so i think the best stat to look at is your plus-minus for money (chips ) each day, week, month etc.
