My nominations are going to be colored strongly by an extended hiatus. I’ve been on the site only rarely for the past five years, but prior to that (for those of you who are a bit newer), I was very active both playing and in the forums.
@BlackWidow: Organizer of the Donks leagues, in addition to consistently being one of the top-ranked players on the site. A fierce competitor who sets an example by giving back to the community through her service.
@puggywug: Highly enthusiastic, frequently sharing hand histories and commentary. Puggy set an example for the forum, routinely putting himself out there and giving extensively to the RP community. Seeing as @DogsOfWar already nominated him, I guess I’m seconding the nomination.
@GamergirI: Consistently one of the highest ranked players on the site, with billions of chips. On a personal note, she reached out to me directly based on my strategy posts on the forums and offered suggestions, tips, and encouragement.
If you and others were to go online and google Poker Hall of Fame then everyone would have a better understanding of how it works!
Unfortunately every system on earth that uses a voting system is not immune to corruption etc. The current Poker HOF is criticised by many, including pros like Negreanu for how it should be changed & improved.
My understanding is ONLY inducted members have power to vote in a player. There is no voting against players either!
Buy as in ask friends to vote for you? Or buy as in buy chips to get results?
I think a player that regularly buys chips doesn’t rate as a Great Player or the Best Player on the site etc. This is not that post, about the GP or BP. The Poker HOF criteria isn’t the same as for the GP or BP so any player that buys results is definitely eligible for nomination.
Even players that might not necessarily have the biggest bank and be the most skilled are more than worth to be nominated like @puggywug or @Alan25main. These pllayers possibly contributed just as much or more than the most skilled Billionaires on the site!
Do we need it or even want it?. The proposal does not seem to have gathered much support so far. What criteria do we use to nominate potential inductees?. Do the players who purchased the most chips get automatic membership as they financially support the site the most?. Are Replay Poker paid staff included?. What about moderators and other volunteers that are paid in chips for what they do?. Do inductees need to regularly post on forum or blog threads?. If so, are they disqualified if they have ever had restrictions imposed?. Does a “one post per 24 hours” restriction differ from a “Thousand year” ban?. How about number of friends invited? or time spent teaching new players at low buy-in tables?. Can Replay veto any prospective inductee for reasons unknown to the community but protected by privacy laws?. We need a high standard of qualification in order to maintain the integrity of HoF otherwise we run the risk of ending up with an ever growing list of deceased players. Popular, but deceased.
I do not believe this is a rabbit hole Replay needs to go down. There are far more pressing issues such as a stable host platform and player retention to deal with at present.
No, I meant you have to Qualify for a Final Game which would determine this year’s HOF inductee and you can’t or shouldn’t be able to buy into it. Replay already offers Two MTT’s annually on here which have this criteria. The RTC and the RPOS, which are both very competitive poker experiences. The biggest failure of these two tourneys (which is JMO) is the lack of participation. But, whose fault is that? It isn’t Replay’s. The HOOK of this idea is the opportunity to be recognized in a Permanent HOF page for the winners like the Toplist. Except the Toplists change almost every year.
Poker is always a form of competition between at least two players.
I find it odd some think this would be a dividing factor instead of encouraging friendly competition. The Toplist pages have been here since I started and I don’t think it’s divided anybody’s thinking.
If that’s the case then the 20 best top list players should have a playoff. If Replay even wants to entertain the idea of a Hall of Fame. I don’t have any skin in the games so I guess it doesn’t matter one way or another.
This is not what a Poker HOF is… Again go google Poker HOF to understand it!
The Poker HOF I have suggested is not a novel idea I’ve devised and created. Its a stolen idea from the REAL Poker HOF, as a suggestion for RP.
I like the idea of recognition for RTC and RPOS players and MTT players. Why focus purely on one idea: RTC & RPOS though? Maybe a list for this specifically on RP. BTW I care nothing about RTC or RPOS, and dont even know what it is. That doesnt mean I need to on it or the players that do love it and care. Players that WON these competitions should deff be included in the RP HOF.
In 2018 Mori Eskandani made it into the REAL Poker HOF. He is not a pro player, but what I would call a contributor. Try google… Bio below:
@DogsOfWar
Not dissing anything. I thought the idea of a having a forum was for the community to voice different views and discuss ideas. Even by your own admission the idea has more ego than support. Only 10 members have made any comment so it is not a hugely popular idea. Replay Poker is so different from live poker, the application of live metrics to play scenarios would probable be un-workable .
Just a suggestion but worth consideration…
Maybe you could create a draft mandate for a potential HoF. Draft up a proposed rule book and voting criteria. What the eligibility requirements are etc. and open a poll for the community to vote on. That way, you will know what support the idea has and will have evidence of support for the idea which may sway RP in their decision.
Yes, it seems some care more about their own accomplishments, and others just want to be combative, and negative.
The REAL Poker HOF works generally well, although its far from perfect. There is no reason it wouldn’t work on RP too.
Some good ideas from you… This was just a casual idea and is based on the REAL Poker HOF to honour the best players and best contributing players on the site.
Players like puggywug, birba11, Alan25main, Wolfie98290 will no longer be visible for players to see on the RP site. I think its sad these players accounts get removed, like they never existed.
