Promotions. Just how bad are they?

Chasetheriver, your analogy is a little flawed. Who wants to take the field at kickoff under the assumption that it will be a 12-16 hour venture to be able to place high enough to earn a reasonable amount of chips? I would wager that the majority of the players here are only on for a few hours a day. But Replay structures promotions for the players who can hang out all day. There are some good promotions on here, the Marathon is one, where games could last up to 3 hours but you work towards playing in the finals. Each game is its own entity, That has a level playing field, it doesn’t matter if you play 3 hours a day or 16. The SnG’s where you utilized only the first 7 games that you played each day to count towards the leaderboard. Again here it puts skill over duration. That is what you should emphasize, SKILL not just how long or how many hands you can play. The fomula that you use on all the ring game promotion is terrible. It rewards 5x the amount towards hands played over big blinds won. That is why you always see the same names at the top of the leaderboard, the ones who can play all day. You could limit the duration, but it would be better to change the formula on how points are earned. Look at the current Step promotion, I see 48 wins to get a leaderboard win. How many games does one need to play to get that many? How long do you think that would take? That is why people donot play in them, there is no chance of placing high enough to earn any real amount of chips unless you make a huge time commitment. In the past (the first 2 times) you at least offered a chip prize along with a step 4 win, but the last 2 times now that has been taken away. That part of it was the only reason players like me would play that promotion, it gave us something to win since we could not play all day for the leaderboard. At the very least bring that back to give players a chance at something.
There are many things that could be done and I have contacted replay with many of those suggestions, but nothing is ever done or changed. If you would like to discuss some please contact me. Since you contacted me on this issue and gave me the opportunity to rant, there is another matter I would like to express. I, like so many others really enjoyed being a Premium member but left after a year. Why? you need to make the cost/benefit better. For the cost of a yearly membership an obnoxious, bingo player can buy 12 million chips during some of your chip specials, but the Premium member can only receive 1,382,500 chips. (500 extra daily chips and 100k per month). The other so called “perks” are not reallyanything. Is that a fair deal? Yes they do have a daily members only game (which I liked with good players) but with the payout on them, you would need to win 235 times in the year to get the same as Mr. Bingo. All you would need to do is reward the Premium members and you would retain a lot of them or bring them back. You don’t have to reward them with more chips, but maybe something like doubling the streak ticket payout or something. You would still be getting the support in tearms of dollars from memberships and letting the members know you actually care.
Thank you for letting me express some of what I see.

What I am looking for, and what I have found, is a pattern that fits my day, but looking for the option to flip to a different play pattern, on a whim. I do the late evening 7-card stud, and concentrate on the “first 7” leaderboard, which I am glad is offered. You get 7 tries, do what you can with them. Have been playing no more, and no less of those. If I miss an evening, I can catch up in the day… nice. I am in one of the leagues and shoot for every Wednesday night. Love the marathons when I will try to play as much as I can stand, or have time for…

I have been pretty addicted to the site to my surprise. In the slower moving events, I actually get some of the duller aspects of work done, answering emails, or texts, or scheduling.

So I think the site is pretty darn fun, and there are patterns to divert to, if you get tired of a pattern. I think more of the “first 7” or “first whatever” is a winner idea for those who play less. I did try the ring games promotion and didn’t like it, but maybe someone did. I don’t care to understand the stairway to million, but maybe I’ll look at that when bored someday.

Everyone else can sort out the chips that should be awarded, Haven’t been here long enough for that to care as an issue yet perhaps? Try to make your own leagues if you want a certain style of play I guess.

I’ve checked the daily leaderboards in the Step to a Million promo every evening when getting in from work.
EVERY day the leader has been on 20+ tickets before I even start playing.
Therefore I haven’t even tried to compete…it’s pointless.

Ok.

I think what we should remember is the word promotion, which means to promote a product for more visabuility, sales or in this case traffic & participation. Even if folks like me, cant participate enough to place in leaderboard, it’s still the same fun free Replay Poker, we look forward to.

Like I mentioned, the first 7 in the gemstone leagues for MTT’s, or if you like SNG’s, the first 20 in the astral leagues are a good place to try to get free chips if you’re not an all day player.
Have a nice day.
