Most Hands Played in 8 hours
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Randy ‘Nanonoko’ Lew holds the record for the most hands played in an 8 hour period. (In order to qualify for the record, he had to book a winning session) He played 25 to 40 tables, averaged almost 50 hands a minute, and finished with 24,493 total hands played. And yes, he made a tidy profit… $7.46.
"For its first few years in Vegas, you could only play Texas hold’em at one casino – The Golden Nugget. It was located in Downtown Las Vegas and was a bit of a seedy joint, which didn’t get many high-stake players coming in.
As such, the game remained in relative obscurity until 1969 when a Texas hold’em tournament was held in the lobby of The Dune casino. Due to the prominence of the location – right on The Strip – the tournament proved to be financially rewarding for a number of high rollers, which increased the popularity of the game exponentially.
This was the start of Texas hold’em poker’s rise to fame."

The most interesting observation I got from this was that there are so many possible shuffles that there’s a great chance that, however you shuffle, no deck has EVER been in the particular order before.
Think about that. No deck in any casino, any home game, any online site, has ever been in that particular order, and no deck is likely to ever be in that order again.
That’s kind of amazing.
By the way, as stated earlier, there are 52! (52 factorial) possible shuffles, which works out to…
