Late Registration: What are the pros and cons?

Agree with @1Warlock entirely. That said, the 15 minute late-reg does make it so there’s “always a game going” as @WannabeCoder said.

Changes to late-reg? Sure. Do away with it? No.

I love the Bankroll Builder 500 B&R. Great stress relief and anger release.

  • You get bounties on all the bust-outs you win, which can really add up during the rebuy phase.
  • You build the final payout tree with each rebuy. So, if you survive long enough the payout is that much better. It’s like putting 5 coins in the video poker machine at the bar instead of 1.
  • After all the silliness, the stacks are immensely deep compared to most other tournaments – particularly if you get lucky and win lots of consecutive all-in battles.

Like @dayman said about Negreanu, the whole point is to bloat the chip pool early and recoup your investment later. Except >50% of the players are doing it instead of one or two.

Yes, and even if you don’t want to play this style you are very incentivised to do so. If 5 of 8 players at your table are shoving pre with any two cards you have to play there game. I don’t just blindly shove every hand but if I will call multi-way or HU all ins in those tournaments with a 60%-70% range and let the cry babies cry.

There’s always another tourney in late reg or about to start. So treat the first few levels of all tournies as a re-buy tourney. Embrace your inner maniac!

A lot of the early players are bingo players which can either be good or bad if beat someone who goes all in with a 3-8 its good but if they haven won acouple of hands and want to raise every blind to 10 times what it is then it sucks.

Observing the players that are in the upper echelon of the game and taking notes is only helpful if you utilize the information. Time after time I have heard the top guys say they enter events at the latest allowable time. If you are against it, & you’re not trying to improve your game from every possible angle, your opinion here is moot and you need to change your name to Bingo.

When I late register{not often} There are so many ahead of me… But I play anyway, it is fun.

I am not sure how many of you have played in a casino BUT all tournaments have a late buy in. That’s the rules of the game so those of you uninformed live with it pretend you are playing for real because this site tries to keep it as real as possible

I prefer the option to join a tournament. I am not always logged in at the start and to be able to join in a few minutes late is a plus. I hope you don’t change the policy.

I don’t join late. I don’t believe in joining something late. someone said that have to wait 15 mins next tournaments, well if you join late, gonna be here more than 15 mins anyway. if you joining late, its even less than 15 mins till next tournaments.

My game varies, sometimes I manage to enter on time and get a good chance to see who the chancers are and sometimes have to enter late for a comp in my chip price range or wait, so I enter and bleed a few blinds but I know when I make a mistake if I get knocked out. Entering early or late it is down to each player to handle internet poker the way it is designed, if they are good players they will win enough of the time no matter when other players join in.

I think it is a nice benefit to be able to start late. I have used this feature in the past and found it helpful when i am running late, or when I forget to sign up for a tourney. However, there is a downside. When I use LR (LATE REGISTRATION), I feel like I have to take more risks to catch up to the chip leaders, and that is never a good thing. Playing in this manner does not help me improve my skills. Also, when I know that LR is available, I tend to take advantage of it. There is no need to sign up on time because I can depend on LR always being there for me to use.
I guess when I consider all aspects of LR, I would like to see it continue due to my procrastination. Thanks for your consideration.

I feel that if there is going to be Late Registration, it should be limited to 5 minutes. I always try to sign up for the tourneys I want to play as soon as possible. I do understand though, that life happens, and the best of intentions, don’t always happen. So if you want to give a break to those running late, then 5 minutes it should be. If you miss a tourney, there’s always tomorrow. Or one a little bit later. My thoughts for those who want to wait a little bit for the all inners, or idiots as I call them, to be gone, the first couple rounds are always low or no antes. So just learn to fold. I know it can be frustrating when you have a good hand, to keep folding, but eventually they will lose, or you will get a hand you feel can’t lose, and when you don’t, it’s a wonderful feeling. If you do challenge and lose, it’s not the end of the world. It’s not like you’re losing any money. Unless of course you’re paying for all your chips!!! Yes, I get mad when I sit down to play a fun game, and I realize that I’m at a table where I know there are players there that will go all in every time, but signing up late is not the answer.

I try to join on time, but there are instances when I can’t. I really don’t mind the late registration.

Im curious Al, how in the heck did you get it to do that ???
I’ve never posted something that formatted the way yours did.

Late registration should be done away with if you think you may be late you can always preregister so I don’t really think there’s a need for late registration or late registration should be no more than 5 mins.

Bingo! also doesn’t registration open 3 hours before the schedule start time? if so, then there is really no need for late registration.

We have tried with out late registration before and it was hard to be right on time. Players ended up wanting more time to get in the tournaments. Replay decided put it back. I think that is what happened.

It doesn’t matter as far as I can see from experience, though if you do you might avoid the (all in) players that go at it right away, they’re mostly out of the game in 5-10 minutes. Same players same play same results, I don’t get it, but to each his own…so I see it as no disadvantage maybe a slight advantage to avoid the all in idiots.Just my opinion.

I think that it is an advantage because of my schedule.

If I am multitasking (as I usually am) I may not notice the start time to the exact minute, which means my options are to register early and potentially be blinded off for the first few minutes until I notice the time, or to register late. This could be solved with an audible notification of a start of a tournament or a popup that was visible when in a different window, but in the absence of that, I’ll probably use late registration most of the time.
