Late Reg Tournament Default

I get the auto-default for players who haven’t played a hand. Having a zombie stack at the table fundamentally alters the game.

But if a player Late Registers, there should be a different standard for when the default happens. Sucks to sign up for a tourney, go make a cup of tea, come back and find you’ve been eliminated for not playing a hand before Level 3 (because you joined at the end of Level 2 and missed three hands).

Or maybe I misunderstand what happened to me?

No misunderstanding I get the same and most times it is when you have a decent hand for once I ran to my front door let someone in and was frozen out of the game yet it was still with the player b4 me so how? trying to get back in lost me a pot as it often says sit back in click it and nothing also why are we starting to have a lot of complaints about freezing or having to log out then in again b43 being allowed to re-sit in on the game?

That’s also frustrating! To be clear, I’m not talking about timing out and being forced to go “Sitting Out.” I’m talking about the automatic default, where if you don’t take an action soon enough after entering the tournament, you just get kicked out of the whole tournament.

If you register late, the cutoff doesn’t change. It’s still the same as if you registered at the very beginning. So if you Late Reg and then walk away from the computer without taking an action, you could come back 5 minutes later and find you’ve lost your whole buy-in without playing a single hand.

Per Replay’s policy you have to play a hand by the end of the third level or you will be removed. Most of the time there is a gap from late registration to the end of the third level to give you a buffer. But tournaments with 6 minute levels and 15 minute late registration or 20 minute late reg and 8 minute levels you only have 3 or 4 minutes respectively, Had that happen to me in one of the Late Regional MTT games and contacted support about it. They pointed out the policy but They did refund my entry that first time because I didn’t know. Never hurts to ask nicely.

to me this just seems like a case where there was an oversight/failure to consider a possible contingency when the policy was written. surely the intent is not for players who have just registered to be defaulted within 3-4 minutes for inaction?

Bad policy is what happened in Donk Omaha when the late registration was longer than second level and players (pronounced me) got eliminated at the end of the second level and 4 minutes before late registration ended of course so would the late reg people if they didnt play the first hand after they were placed at a table. Don’t know how you would code it to give late reg people longer to play their first hand. Either the ghost are chopped after 2nd or 3rd level as having them around messes up play for all so third level is a hard cut. Of course I dont know how to code lol but they make it sound like it is hard lol.

yeah I guess it might be logistically difficult (impossible? i’m no tech either) to have like, personalized timeout cutoffs. then again couldn’t Late Reg just attach like a * to your player ID and tell the compy compooter to like, treat u different? ok i’m clearly talking above my pay grade now, i’m outta here lol

Just happened to me again. This will never not make me bitter lol. I think it’s a bad policy but whatever.

If I Late Reg at 3:14, go to check on the dog upstairs, and come back at 3:22, I should not have lost my entire buy in without playing a single hand. There’s no benefit to the other players to default me in this manner; it just sucks for me. No winners, only losers.

Bad policy is bad!

EDIT: I remember more about what happened now. Having been defaulted for no-action very quickly after Late Reg in the past, I was mindful this time and told myself “make sure to quickly fold, then you can stand up.” But between Button placement and table changes, I didn’t have an opportunity to take an immediate action. Then the dog started barking, I went upstairs to check, and when I returned I had been forfeited.

Surely there is some way to add a line of code that says “this player just joined the tournament, they have 10 minutes to take an action before we forfeit them”
