How Many Players Prefer to Play With Chat Off

I was wondering how many players actually have their chat off when they play, and why so ? I like to chat it up sometimes but when I do it seems that everyone has their chat off, or do they ? I have been playing on this site since 2015 under different screen names, email accounts etc. (you know, build a large bank, go bust then take a vacation, then come back) And I must say, a few years back this was a very chatty site. Now ?? Not so much. My question is, is it beneficial to your game NOT to chat, or do you only chat with Friends ?

I chat during games but in today’s world players play with phones and that has no chat function.

Chatting makes the game more fun for sure, but like Craig says about players using their phones that have no chat function is likely why a lot of players don’t chat. So I never figure someone is being rude like it might seem.

I can be a chatter box, esp when many friends or team m8s r on the table. Also, depends on my mood @ the time; lol, Like mb wine helps that.
Other times, depends on the game, mb more serious , less chat.

Great question, I always have my chat on. The chat for me is what makes the games fun. It is much more difficult to stir up a conversation, or even see a Hi or GL than it used to be. As mentioned could be due to phone use or many more reasons. I think we also miss some chat intended for us due to all of the broadcast announcement’s and displaying every card dealt in chat box.

Chat always on for me. That’s half the ultimate poker experience here.

For the most part, I have chat turned off. I have chat turned off on every online site I play on.
Unless I play with players I see regularly, or I want to comment on the previous hand, I don’t pay attention to chat.
If you want to know why I have chat turned off, it is because I have nothing to say.
I try to play like I am playing at a casino, I am not there to socialize. I am there to play poker.

I really hate seeing “nice hand” comments. ugh. People use this for every hand and not for hands well played.

I don’t want to turn over any stones, people from central New York are always talkative

Poker is a game of information, chat away and find out what the opposition thinks!

That is true at a live game, on a play money online game I don’t think it is as important.

Exactly this. 99 percent of the chat comments I see are “NH” and they are usually from the same player every hand. They have nothing to do with the actual play and whether anyone was making a good poker decision. No–they happened to have the highest card or whatever. Does that really need a compliment thrown at it?

I do not even get a response when I chat to say “GH” or “VGH”. I’m either ignored or their chat is turned off.

You have to remember most players now play on their phones which have no chat capabilities.

Thanks for the replies. The way I figured it is, 50% like to chat, 20% flat out turn chat off (Because they can) and the other 30% use phones with no chat feature > Sound about right ?

Curious,i know people on phones can’t chat but can they see what others are saying? Or is there no room for chat box?

Frankly, I find the compliments irritating, I’d rather just play without people saying what they think and while we are at it, why not say when people make a stupid play? Well we can’t really say that because as we all know, we are all perfect and never make mistakes!

You cannot comment on a stupid play, or player…it’s against the rules. If you get reported they will mute you. So, no matter how idiotic players can be, you just have to grin and bear it.

Life is no rainbows and sunshine. It should be a 2 way street, if u are allowed to compliment you should also be allowed to be critical of bad play, same with ALL the forums not having a dumbs down for posts that people do not agree with, there a little heart for posts that agree with your point of view, WHERE is the DISAGREE button?
There isn’t one, Why? Afraid people will be offended?
